With the carnival winding down there were only a few black type performers tuning up for late autumn assignments, most notable the 1200m heat winners LIVE AND FREE and GREYSFUL GLAMOUR. Liked the way LIVE AND FREE sprinted home for a sharp win in solid time (1.24.72; 35.36) while GREYSFUL GLAMOUR did her usual thing leading all the way for a soft win in 1.15.14, notably running a quicker last 600m (34.97).
The only open trial over 742m was full of eye catching efforts. BELLEVUE HILL recorded the fastest of the six heats over the distance (43.79), zipping home his last 600m in 33.03, while MISS SPITEFUL, SATIN SOCKS, INTO THJE ABYSS and BOUND TO WIN worked well behind him.
The 2YO heats over 742m saw strong wins from the pre-Xmas Listed winner WILD RULER (43.95; 33.55), SHOTGUN ALLI (44.14; 33.80) and ALURA (44.26; 33.90). STAR OF SUCCESS and MORE PROPHETS won maiden heats and have prospects.
