Trial Watch Reviews : 11th May - 15th May 2020

Chris Scholtz reviews Sydney and provincial barrier trials at Hawkesbury (May 11), Warwick Farm (May 12), Gosford (May 13) and Randwick (May 15).

RANDWICK May 15

Randwick A Grass; Soft 5

12 Heats; 7 x 1040m (2 Open; 3 2YO; 2 Maiden); 5 x 742m (1 Open; 3 2YO; 1 Maiden)

WILD RULER (Peter & Paul Snowden): Way above average youngster was back to the trials after his recent first-up second and again showed his talent to record the fastest of the seven 1040m heats (62.58; 35.23) in impressive circumstances as he tracked wide and was keen to run when challenged by another rival for the first 800m. He then forged away under a hold for a classy win. Will be a lot fitter the next time he is produced.

INDIGENOUS (Gai Waterhouse & Adrain Bott): Has been placed in two of her four starts and is ready to win her maiden after a big heat win by seven lengths, slipping home in a smart last 600m (34.61).

SUPER SWISH (Pat Webster): First Sydney trial for this lightly raced miss from New Zealand and made an instant impression with a classy win in the fastest of the five 742m heats (43.63; 33.04) after sitting three wide outside the lead and pulling away under a quiet ride. She had only two starts in NZ for an Avondale maiden win in January and looks capable of better things.

Some usual suspects featured but it was the talented Godolphin youngster BEYLIKS that made the best impression with his soft win in his 808m heat (47.44; 33.74). Looks set to build on the promise he showed early in the season. Another youngster worth keeping an eye on is ROCKETING BY, who recorded the fastest 808m heat win (47.43; 33.41).

The classy SUPERIUM improved sharply on his recent first-up trial to record the fastest 800m heat win (46.53; 33.37). Expect him to develop further in his coming campaign.
