Broadmeadow trainer Nathan Doyle won three heats and provided the highlight of the morning with a super trial from his hugely talented mare STRAWB. She is a headache for him but passed her required trial before stewards with flying colours after her failure at Newcastle last month.

STRAWB dwelt at the start in her 920m heat – a frequent worry in her races – and settled eight lengths from the lead. She was still six off at the 400m before showing her class to easily reel in the leaders over the last 100m with a scintillating turn of foot under the quietest of rides from Lee Margorian. It was the quickest of the three 920m heats (53.46) and her last 600m was much faster than the time posted as the official leader to leader sectional (33.23).
Godolphin sent a small team up the highway and won two 800m heats with DEFERENCE (48.00; 33.04) and KNICKPOINT (49.08; 33.71) while their classy pair EXHILARATES and CRIADERAS had easy conditioning workouts.

Never enthusiastic about polytrack trial form. Paying little heed to heat times and happy to rate performances on face value.
