ROSEHILL July 29

Inside Grass; Heavy 8

16 Heats – 11 x 900m (1 Group/Listed; 2 Open; 6 2YO; 2 3 & 4YO); 5 x 1030m (3 Open; 2 2YO)

Sydney's last trials for 2021/22 featured one heat for the older Group and Listed horses and a big number of the season's better performed juveniles making a start to their spring preparations.

The Group heat over 900m was nothing more than exercise for the 10 runners as it was run in the slowest time of the 11 trials over the distance (56.79; 35.83). The winner HILAL dictated the pace with nothing put under any pressure behind him. I liked the way the classy mare GRACE AND HARMONY worked to the line for second ahead of the top flight G1 winner MO'UNGA but expect all of these will be trialling again before they resume.

Another noted Group horse I AM SUPERMAN was an impressive winner of his open heat over 1040m (64.54; 35.85), sitting at the rear before peeling to the outside and showing a classy turn of foot to reel them in and win with something in hand.

The heat times were slower than standard due to the heavy conditions but there were numerous promising efforts in the juvenile heats. Again you can expect many of these new season 3YOs will be seen in trials again before they start their spring campaigns.

REVOLUTIONARY MISS (Peter & Paul Snowden): One of the seasons best fillies looks set to go on with it in the new season after trialling up nicely to finish second in a strong 900m heat (54.87; 35.68) won in good style by another good filly MUMBAI JEWEL. Her strong work under no pressure over the last 250m took the eye.

SEIRYU (Hawkes Racing): This Zoustar filly was one of the better winners among the seven heats won by this top stable. Didn't rise to expectations in two race starts in February and March but she has won her last three trials and her sharp acceleration to run down a tearaway leader for a soft win in her 900m heat (56.29; 36.58) made an impression.

SEBONACK (Hawkes Racing): Showed his class to put away his rivals in his 900m heat (55.17; 35.69), William Pike giving him an easy time as he extended smoothly from midfield to get home over the top of them under no pressure. Expect him to be a player in the early 3YO feature races.

SMIRNOVA (Hawkes Racing): A sharp 900m win in a heat for the 3 and 4YOs from the classy Snitzel mare points to her being ready to perform strongly first-up. Took up the running after 250m and from there worked well within herself to easily hold her rivals under a kind ride from Tommy Berry (54.95; 35.53).

NOTED TRIALS

XX I Am Superman; Revolutionary Miss; Seiryu; Sebonack; Smirnova

GOSFORD July 29

Course Proper; Heavy 8

14 Heats – 8 x 1000m (4 Open; 2 2YO; 2 Maiden); 6 x 800m (1 Open; 4 2YO; 1 Maiden)

Sydney Cup winner KNIGHTS ORDER added a touch of class to this session with an unexpected fresh win in his first trial since April.

Tim Clark bounced him out of the gates and he showed surprising dash to lead his 1000m heat and run out a clear winner in good time (62.52; 37.09). It's always a good sign when a stayer can sprint well at the start of their preparations.

The Waterhouise/Bott stable sent a big team from Randwick and came away with six heat wins including some sharp performances from several rising 3YOs.

Unraced Zoustar colt SCIENTIST looks a nice prospect after cruising to a soft win in his 1000m heat (62.89; 37.56) to back up an earlier trial win at Randwick on July 8 while NOMINATOR, another Zoustar with a Gosford win and Flemington placing on the board, looked strong winning a fast 800m heat (48.14; 34.72). The stable also won 2YO heats with QUINLAN, EMERALD CUT and BURGUNDER.

The fastest 800m heat was won in brilliant style by SURREAL LILY (47.95; 34.55), a maiden from the Brad Widdup stable who sped to a big lead and cruised home by almost six lengths.

The fastest 1000m heat (61.86; 36.68) was taken out by MADAM CHARM, a new addition to the Nathan Doyle team from the Maher/Eustace stable. She was always in control and had plenty in reserve winning under a good hold from Kody Nestor.

NOTED TRIALS

X Bringonthebubbles; Burgunder; Dimaggio; Hollywood Hero; Madam Charm; Nominator; Knights Order; Scientist; Sir Crackle; Super Bright; Surreal Lily; World Atlas.
