RANDWICK August 2

17 Heats; Soft 7

Course Proper – 1 x 900m (Group/Listed);

Randwick A Grass – 8 x 1050m (3 Open; 5 3YO Maiden); 6 x 742m (2 Open; 1 3YO; 3 Maiden)

Polytrack – 1 x 1080m (Open); 1 x 780m (Open)

Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott are in a good place heading into the spring judging by the performances of their classy Group performers at this session.

They dominated the 900m black type heat with a clean sweep of the placings by their top shelf trio IN THE CONGO, CONVERGE and the import DAJRAAN while they picked up other heat wins on the A grass with the promising trio KIBOU, PANTONARIO and SILENT IMPACT.

IN THE CONGO used his natural speed to lead up the Group heat over 900m and was never under pressure to record a soft win (54.64; 37.10), a strong indicator that he is in the right form to add to his perfect fresh record when he resumes.

However many would rate the closing second of Randwick Guineas winner CONVERGE as the better trial. He settled five lengths off his stablemate in midfield on the inside before railing up and cutting the margin 1.2 lengths on the line with plenty in reserve. DAJRAAN made quite an impression in his first local campaign in the autumn and his strong finish out wide for third is a sure sign he will be even better this season.

The heat also included easy trials from the likes of OJAI, FANGIRL and the stayers BENAUD and SACRAMENTO. Keen to see how they perform in their second trials before they resume.

Peter and Paul; Snowden would as have been pleased with their results at this session, especially from their exciting 3YOs CYTHERA, RUSSIAN CONQUEST, EBHAAR, MISS HELLFIRE and AMBASSADORS.

CYTHERA oozed class winning her 1050m heat in fast time (63.40; 34.86), doing it in style from the front while RUSSIAN CONQUEST closed off best behind her for a strong third.

EBHAAR was one of the boom 2YOs of last season and her sharp trial win over 1050m (63.53; 35.21) ensures she will again attract plenty of attention when she resumes. She was eager to run opening up a big lead in her heat while stablemate MISS HELLFIRE warmed to her task from the back half in the last 100m and impressed with the way she ran through the line for second.

PANTONARIO added to her reputation as one of the best young maidens in Sydney with an easy win in her 1050m heat (64.27; 35.34) while other maidens to impress included PERFECT THOUGHT and GIGANTIC.

SILENT IMPACT was given a solid test to lead and win a slow 742m heat (44.55; 34.01) in a trial where the efforts of CHAT, GRAVINA and STICK TO YOUR GUNS took the eye. The exciting 3YO KIBOU clearly took the time honours in the 742m heats with a strong win after covering ground (43.97; 33.61) in a trial that saw the Group winning filly PARIS DIOR run through the line in great style to finish third.
