Best Bets

RACE 4 (3) IN SECRET: It's obvious the Godolphin team have had their eyes on this prize since this impeccably-bred I Am Invincible filly justified her short odds to record an impressive debut win over 1100m at Hawkesbury on April 13. She easily mastered the soft conditions to run away from two subsequent winners, putting excellent figures on the board running the fastest last 600m sectionals of the meeting, and she's since had an easy trial in heavy ground to ensure she is up to the mark for this black type event. Trust the rails draw won't be a disadvantage after Friday's meeting.

RACE 7 (4) ANDERMATT: Has posted excellent sectionals in his big wins since resuming. Can't see this trip being a problem in his current form.

RACE 5 (11) SACRIMONY: Promising 3YO has been out of the money only once in six starts and made the expected improvement from an unlucky first-up third to post a strong come from behind win over 1100m in a higher BM78 at the Hawkesbury feature meeting on April 30 when he had no issues with the heavy ground. He's up in the weights with the drop back to a BM72 but is sure to be fitter and rising to 1300m looks a natural step. Must save on his talented stablemate (16) AND WE DANCED after her excellent trial.

For Value

RACE 3 (5) ARABOLINI: Hard to knock as a recent winner over this course and distance on a Heavy 10 then beat a subsequent city winner last time at Randwick.  Stays well and nicely weighted after the claim.

RACE 8: (8) NEVER TALK: Could have won similar Group 3 race at Hawkesbury last time with better luck. Drops 2kg and this is a good race for mares down in the weights

RACE 9 (6) LORD OLYMPUS: Scratchings have opened up this event, making this sprinter an excellent gamble after his luckless performance when second up in last Saturday's Takeover Target Stakes (1200m) at Gosford. Taken back from a wide gate, he had plenty to offer when looking for a clear run from the turn but his chances ended when he was chopped out at the 200m, turning his race into no more than a barrier trial. Backing him up quickly from a good draw on this bigger track is a strong show of confidence from one of Sydney's most astute trainers.

RACE 10 (12) AMERICAN PRESIDENT: Is there a horse going better on the heavy tracks? No reason why he can't win again.

TRIAL POINTERS

WARWICK FARM May 9: The fast mare LASHES had her skates on to win her 800m heat by a wide margin in the heavy ground in a sharp 46.36 (35.70).

ROSEHILL May 6: Quality filly SKY COMMAND had her first trial since a stable switch from Gary Portelli and is ready to run first-up after sprinting away with her 900m heat in easily the fastest time of the session (54.77; 34.36). From the 200m Brenton Avdulla allowed the filly to slide home under a soft ride and win the heat by more than four lengths with more than nine lengths to third. Impressive work.

HAWKESBURY May 3: Class act KEMENTARI showed he was in ripe form for his next target race after an easy 800m trial that saw him get into his work late and surge through the line in fine style. He finished fifth but it was the manner of his work after the line that really took the eye. Stablemate ROHERYN competed in the same heat and also had plenty to offer over the last 200m, going through the line under a tight hold. Quality 3YO PAULELE and smart filly ZAPATEO also had quiet trials in other heats but did more than enough to ensure they are ready to perform.

RANDWICK May 2: Rising star MAZU recorded an impressive 1045m heat win (65.10; 35.92) over his stablemate SIGNORE FOX, tracking the leaders and doing all that was required to ease past them under a cold ride over the last 200m. SIGNORE FOX worked to the line keenly.

ROSEHILL April 29: Former Kiwi filly AND WE DANCED proved costly in her first three local starts but expect she will repay the faithful in her coming prep. Really took the eye with her closing third in her 1030m heat (64.24; 36.10), working strongly to the line from the rear with James McDonald keeping her under an iron grip. Ready to go first-up. Talented sprinter GENERATION brought his Melbourne form to Sydney, running out a smart winner of the fastest 1030m heat (63.32; 34.85). Classy youngster METALLICITY went to the line under no heavy pressure for a close second in his 2YO heat over 900m. You would expect him to trial strongly as the time was slow (57.08; 35.70).

RANDWICK April 19: It was a déjà vu performance from the good mare LE GAI SOLEIL as her 1050m heat win (63.79; 35.18) was an almost identical performance to the trial she won over this same distance before her impressive first-up win in February. She was back last about eight lengths off the leaders before sweeping home down the outside rail under a cold ride from Kerrin McEvoy. Put in a similar trial when sweeping home from last for third in another Randwick trial on May 2, confirming she is well prepared for her return.

WARWICK FARM April 1: It was hard to miss the soft fourth by ROHERYN in the fastest of the eight 740m trials (44.43; 33.90).
