ROSEHILL June 4

BEST VALUE

RACE 3 (3) TYMPANIST: Went to a new high first-up since January when overwhelming his rivals from off the pace for a dominant 3.5 lengths win over 1550m on a soft Kensington track at Randwick on May 18. Up in the weights for that win but he should relish the step up in trip as he's been placed up to 2000m on a heavy track at his only attempt and his first-up win suggests he has returned an improved performer. His each way odds in an average field are appealing.

RACE 4 (7) ANAGAIN: Lightly raced filly resumed in the strong Hawkesbury Guineas (1400m) before improving with the drop in grade to this class when a late closing second to Momack over this course and distance on May 21. Must be fitter meeting that horse 1.5kg better under the same conditions and with only six career starts behind her she holds plenty of scope for improvement.

RACE 7 (10) SOLAR APEX: Overcame difficulties to carry 60.5kg and beat the in-form mare Elusive Jewel first-up over 1600m at Gosford before a solid fourth when back in trip to 1500m in the heavy at this course on May 21 under 56.5kg. Rises to a BM94 but gets down in the weights to only 51.5kg after the claim for top apprentice Tyler Schiller and with good 2000m form behind him this looks the right race for him third-up.

OTHER THOUGHTS…..

RACE 1: Good contest between some nice winter 2YOs with the three last start winners at the top of the field all open to improvement. Tactics/track pattern important as (2) BACKROWER impressed in the heavy at Newcastle but will give away a start to (1) BAROQUE ROAD and (3) MADAME POMMERY. Newcomer (6) OSIPENKO has been good in trials.

RACE 6:  Scratchings have made it easier for the topweight (1) LADY OF LUXURY second up from a spell. She is a good mare well placed in this company with the 3kg claim for Dylan Gibbons. (15) NEWLEY WED impressed in a maiden win at Newcastle and top stable takes this option over a Melbourne race.

RACE 8: Happy to play with the Kris Lees stablemates (8) PER INAWAY and (11) ZETARITA in exotics. Lees has a knack with tried horses from NZ and PER INAWAY has the right profile for this class while ZETARITA ran well first-up at huge odds in a stronger black type race at Scone and should improve under her light weight. (9) SHOWTIME LADY is the one they have to beat.

RACE 9: Tricky affair with fitness levels important. Going for value with (12) DHAKURI as he profiles well second up and is a likely improver but the last start winners (4) PHILIPSBURG, (11) ITA and (18) SAVVY LEGEND have the fitness edge. Big watch on the resuming horses from the top stables – (6) KING OF CLUBS and (14) WICKLOW.

RACE 10: Tough one to finish the day. (12) FOX FIGHTER makes appeal at nice odds as he is well weighted and suited by the conditions but you can make a case for many others – 5/8/9/11/15 could all go into the quaddie!

TRIAL POINTERS

HAWKESBURY May 30: Lightly raced local filly RITA MAY has won two of her four starts and there should be more success to come if she runs to this trial form. Did it easily to clock the fastest time in the nine 1000m heats (59.05; 34.47), pulling her way to a clear lead and cruising to the line under no pressure with a lot in hand.

WARWICK FARM May 27: Nothing exceptional about the five heats overt 740m on the poly track apart from the previously noted Hawkes-trained PYROIS, an unraced 2YO by Written Tycoon, maintaining his unbeaten record in three trials with a soft win over three rivals in slow time (44.90; 34.15). CINQUE TORRI posted good time (47.72; 34.50) winning an open heat on the grass over 808m.

ROSEHILL May 20: American Pharaoh filly PARLAYED was placed in her first two starts in the spring and won't be long breaking her maiden after this impressive 900m heat win (55.57; 35.82). She was awkwardly placed eight lengths back in a packed field before Willie Pike angled her into the clear turning for home. Let down with a sharp turn of foot to quickly pick up the leaders over the last 200m and win with something in hand.

WARWICK FARM May 9: Ciaron Maher and David Eustace are making a habit of sending the right young horses to Sydney for suitable races. Their promising unraced 2YO filly MINOKAWA was having her second trial and showed plenty of natural speed to dominate her 793m heat (47.88; 37.25).

ROSEHILL January 17: Second trial win by PYROIS in the fastest of the five 2YO heats (53.50; 35.19). He was a bit keen and awkward when under restraint behind runners early but showed his quality after Tommy Berry eased him into clear air.

ROSEHILL January 4: Million dollar Written Tycoon colt PYROIS was having his first trial and showed a lot of quality to track three wide from the back half and work to the line under no pressure from Tommy Berry to win his 900m heat (54.47; 35.04). Holds plenty of scope for improvement off this experience.
