Another record day at Inglis Premier

More records tumble on Day 2 at Inglis Premier.

This year's Inglis Premier Sale is proof that a yearling sale is not defined by high-priced lots with the 2022 offering producing a second consecutive record day's trade despite not producing a seven-figure yearling.

The $34,225,000 that changed hands bettered the opening day's number of $33,382,500 which was the most ever at Victoria's major yearling sale.

With 60 lots still to come on Tuesday's third and final day, $67,607,500 has already been amassed across the first two days - $3,397,500 more than was grossed from the entire sale last year.

The Day 2 average of $169,431 was up on Day 1's $158,211, giving the sale a $163,699 average across the two days, while the median jumped from $130,000 on Day 1 to $150,000 on Day 2 for a sale figure of $145,000.

The clearance rate across the two days is 85 percent.

Inglis's chief executive of bloodstock, Sebastian Hutch, said the second day's results backed up what was a brilliant opening day.

"The competition through the middle and upper parts of the market was really quite fantastic and I think it's a great compliment to the sale," Hutch said.

"It's not a parochial buying bench here. It's a truly cosmopolitan buying bench, there are major international investors participating at the sale and it makes it a very enjoyable experience for us.

"You work hard to encourage people to come to the sale, they come, they find the horses they like and they buy them. I suppose that's the aim of the game really."

The second day was highlight by a Widden Stud-prepared colt by I Am Invincible, who became the third highest-priced yearling sold in Victoria when knocked down to Coolmore for $950,000.

While the highest-priced lot of Day 2, he was one of only two to sell for at least $500,000 – a figure that was topped six times on Day 1.

"He's in the top one percent of yearlings sold (in Australia) for the year and that's quite an effort," Hutch said of the sale-topper.

"Hopefully the result of a horse like him, and a number of other results through the day, give people the confidence that they can do the same next year and years to come."

The Premier Yearling Sale continues on Tuesday with the 60 lots who round out the main session followed by another 202 lots in the Showcase Session.
