Vancouver, Rubick and Reward For Effort add new stakes winners in Australia

New stakes winners
Nine for Vancouver

Woodside Park's Vancouver (Medaglia d'Oro) sired his ninth stakes winner when Canadian Dancer (3 f ex Kicker by Hard Spun) won the Princess Stakes (Listed, 1640m) at Doomben on Saturday. A $50,000 Inglis Melbourne Premier Yearling Sale buy by Proven Thoroughbreds and Steve O'Dea Racing from the draft of Vinery Stud, Canadian Dancer beat Teranga (Sebring) by a length and a half and took her race record to three wins and three placings in six career starts. Vancouver stood his first six seasons at Coolmore's Hunter Valley farm and will stand his first season in Victoria this year. 

 

Four for Rubick 
Rubiquitous (3 g ex Novaspirit by Bel Esprit) handed her Swettenham Stud-based sire Rubick (Encosta De Lago) his fourth stakes winner when he won Saturday's Mick Dittman Plate (Listed, 1110m) at Doomben. Trained by Chris Anderson, Rubiquitous beat Miss Hipster (Star Turn) by a neck, with Joyous Legend (Snitzel) third. Rubiquitous was bought by his trainer and Steve Morley Bloodstock for $35,000 at the Inglis Classic Yearling Sale in 2020 when offered by Amarina Farm. Rubick begun his stud career at Coolmore Australia and relocated to Swettenham Stud last year when he stood for a fee of $27,500 (inc GST). His progeny are headed by Everest (1200m) winner Yes Yes Yes. 

 

Ten for Reward For Effort
Champagne Dreams (3 f ex Katella Bubbles by Johannesburg) won the Redelva Stakes (Listed, 1100m) at Morphettville on Saturday, handing Reward For Effort (Exceed And Excel) his tenth stakes winner. The filly, who finished second last start int he Typhoon Tracy (Gr 3, 1200m) at Moonee Valley on February 25, beat Manhattan Times (Manhattan Rain) by a length and a half. Reward For Effort relocated from Chatswood Stud to Larneuk Stud when Chatswood Stud closed and was euthanised following complications from surgery last November. 

 

36 for Tavistock 
The late Cambridge Stud stallion Tavistock (Montjeu) sired his 36th stakes winner when Pinarello (3 g ex Zonza by Zabeel) took the Championship Stakes (Gr 2, 2100m) at Pukekohe. The gelding, who was last seen finishing fifth in the New Zealand Derby (Gr 1, 2400m) on March 5, scored a two and a half length victory over Titled (Exceed And Excel) and took his record to three wins and two placings in six starts. 

 

Four for Vespa 
Vespa (Elusive City) notched up stakes winner number four when Carolina Reaper (4 m ex Bonney Pepper by Fastnet Rock) beat favourite, Brando (Savabeel), in the Easter Handicap (Gr 3, 1600m) at Pukekohe on Saturday. Carolina Reaper is out of the Fastnet Rock (Danehill) mare Bonney Pepper and was purchased by her co-trainer Graham Richardson for NZ$12,000 from the draft of Wellfield Lodge at Karaka Book 2 in 2019. Carolina Reaper is the first Group winner for Vespa who has also produced the Listed winning trio Mackenzie Lad, Chokito and Wakari. 

 

Ten for Redwood
Sharp 'n' Smart (2 g ex Queen Margaret by Swiss Ace) broke his maiden in Saturday's Champagne Stakes (Listed, 1600m) at Pukekohe, becoming the tenth stakes winner for Westbury Stud's Redwood (High Chaparral). A NZ$55,000 Karaka Book 2 purchase by Rogerson Bloodstock from the draft of Westbury Stud, Sharp 'n' Smart beat Waitak (Proisir) by a head with that pair well clear of Mr Maestro (Savabeel) who finished in third. 

 

Five for Ghibellines
In winning Saturay's Warstep Stakes (Listed, 2000m) at Riccarton Park, Burgie (3 f ex Norah by Gallant Guru) became the fifth stakes winner for White Robe Lodge's Ghibellines (Shamardal). Unplaced in three prior starts at stakes level, Burgie scored a half length victory over Belle Of The Ball (Savabeel) with favourite Reputabelle (Pins) third. Burgie was bred and is raced by the Anderton family who own White Robe Lodge.
