The China Horse Club-raced Cobh (2 c ex Arbeel by Royal Applause) followed up his good second in the Pat Eddery Stakes (Listed, 7f) when he landed the Stonehenge Stakes (Listed, 1m) at Salisbury on Friday and in the process became the first stakes winner for Rathbarry Stud resident Kodi Bear (Kodiac).

Fittingly Cobh is trained by Clive Cox, who sent out his sire to four victories, including in the Celebration Mile (Gr 2, 1m), and on Friday the colt battled bravely to beat Fancy Man - who is by former Coolmore Stud shuttler Pride Of Dubai (Street Cry) - by half a length, while Surprise Exhibit (Showcasing) was another three and a quarter lengths away in third.

The colt was snapped up by his owners for €100,000 at the 2019 Goffs Orby Sale from the Rathbarry Stud draft, having been purchased by R.B.S. for €66,000 at the Goffs November Foal Sale the year before.

The two-year-old colt is one of two winners out of placed Royal Applause (Waajib) mare Arbeel, whose other winner is winning juvenile Boomerang Betty (Havana Gold). Arbeel is herself a half-sister to Listed winner Telwaar (Haafhd).

Further back the colt’s third dam is Prix Morny (Gr 1, 1200m) winner First Waltz (Green Dancer) - who is the dam of ten winners.

From a first crop of 83 two-year-olds to start with in 2020, he has already sired five individual winners, including Cobh and his first crop also includes stakes-placed duo Broxi and Measure Of Magic. Kodi Bear stood the 2020 season for a fee of €6,000.
