After sending out New Approach (Galileo) to win the Futurity Stakes (Gr 2, 7f) in 2007, Jim Bolger saddled New Approach’s son Mac Swiney (2 c ex Halla Na Saoire by Teofilo) to win the Group 1 at the Curragh on Saturday with the colt becoming the 53rd stakes winner for the Darley stallion.

Last seen running ninth in the Tyros Stakes (Gr 3, 7f) on August 6, the colt flew home to post a half a length victory over Cadillac (Lope De Vega), while longtime leader finished the same distance away in third Ontario (Galileo).

The two-year-old colt is one of two winners out of the unraced Teofilo (Galileo) mare Halla Na Saoire, who is herself a sister to Derrinstown Stud Derby Trial Stakes (Gr 3, 1m2f) winner Light Heavy, while she is also a three-quarter sister to Dewhurst Stakes (Gr 1, 7f) winner Parish Hall.

Further back the colt shares a page with Listed winner An Ghalanta (Holy Roman Emperor), who in turn produced Listed winner Time Scale (Charm Spirit).

Mac Swiney is the second son of New Approach to emulate his sire by winning the Group 2, with Herald The Dawn landing the 2015 edition of the race.

New Approach’s progeny is headed by eight Group 1 winners and he stood at Dalham Hall for a fee of £30,000 in 2020. Meanwhile, Mac Swiney becomes the first stakes winner to be inbred to Galileo (Sadler's Wells) with his dam by Teofilo.
