Dual Australian Group 1-winning Redoute’s Choice (Danehill) mare Melito added some Australian interest at Haydock on Thursday as her fifth foal - Pleasant Man (2 c Galileo - Melito, by Redoute's Choice) got off the mark at the first time of asking in the Betfair Free Bet Streak EBF Novice Stakes (1m).

The Roger Charlton-trained son of Galileo (Sadler’s Wells) glided effortlessly to the front of affairs with a furlong left to travel, eventually coming away with an easy length and a quarter victory over Pied Piper (New Approach), while Outback Boy (Australia) finished a further two and a quarter lengths away in third.

Melito won five races during her career, headed by victories in the TJ Smith Stakes (Gr 1, 1200m) and Tatt's RC Winter Stakes (Gr 1, 1400m) and she was first purchased by Gerald Ryan for $600,000 at the 2008 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale. Her next trip to the sales ring was when she was offered at the 2012 Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale and was snapped up by Tom Magnier for $1,650,000.

Most recently, she was purchased by Katsumi Yoshida for €950,000 at the 2017 Goffs Ireland November Breeding Stock Sale.

The daughter of the late Arrowfield Stud resident Redoute’s Choice has now produced three winners, headed by multiple stakes placegetter Campbell Junior (Encosta De Lago).

Melito is a half-sister to Secluded (Hussonet) - the dam of dual Group 3 winner and now Arrowfield Stud resident Pariah (Redoute’s Choice).

Coolmore Stud-based sire Galileo has stood for a private fee since 2008, and he will be represented in Australia this season by his sire sons Adelaide, Churchill and Highland Reel.
