The Andre Fabre-trained Persian King (4 c Kingman - Pretty Please by Dylan Thomas) added a third Group 1 to his already glowing CV when he landed the Prix du Moulin de Longchamp (Gr 1, 1600m) on Sunday.

The Godolphin-raced four-year-old colt raced at the front of affairs for much of the mile contest with Circus Maximus (Galileo) for company. As the field entered the straight Pierre-Charles Boudot asked the son of Kingman (Invincible Spirit) for his effort and he scooted away to beat the fast-finishing Pinatubo (Shamardal) by a length and three-quarters. Circus Maximus finished another six lengths adrift in third.

“I don’t think it was because of strategy – the best horse on the day won,” said Fabre.

“We have different options, one is the Champion Stakes at Ascot and another is the Arc. I think he can step back up in distance and we will see closer to the time which way we go.”

The four-year-old is out of the winning Dylan Thomas (Danehill) mare Pretty Please, who is herself a half-sister to Prix Ganay (Gr 1, 2100m) winner Planteur (Danehill Dancer) and Pilote D’Essai (Oasis Dream), who landed the Ballarat Cup (Listed, 2000m) and Pakenham Cup (Listed, 2500m).

Further back the colt hails from the same family as dual Group 3 winner Policy Maker (Sadler’s Wells), Group 2 winner Pushkin (Caerleon) and Group 3 winner Place Rouge (Desert King).

Kingman, a son of Invincible Spirit (Green Desert) - who stands at Juddmonte Farms’ Banstead Manor base and Palace Pier joins Persian King - who finished fourth in the Group 1 - as the stallion’s other elite level winner. Kingman will be represented in Australia this season by his Group 2-winning son Calyx, who will stand at Coolmore Stud in the Hunter Valley for a fee of $17,600 (inc GST).
