Ballylinch’s first-season New Bay (Dubawi) has made an exciting start to his career as a stallion and he added another string to his bow on Friday as his son New Mandate (2 g ex Mishhar by Authorized) landed the Flying Scotsman Stakes (Listed, 7f) at Doncaster.

The two-year-old gelding was having his fourth career start, having broken his maiden on his previous engagement and he came out on top of a ding dong battle with Laneqash - who is by Woodside Park Stud shuttler Cable Bay (Invincible Spirit) - eventually beating him by a head, while the pair pulled two and a half lengths clear of One Ruler (Dubawi), who came home in third.

Purchased by Elliott Bloodstock for €35,000 at the 2019 Arqana Deauville August Yearling Sale, the gelding is out of the placed Authorized (Montjeu) mare Mishhar.

Mishaar herself is a half-sister to Puggy (Mark Of Esteem) - the dam of Avenir Certain (Le Havre), whose six victories are headed by wins in the Poule d'Essai des Pouliches (Gr 1, 1600m) and Prix de Diane (Gr 1, 2400m) and she has gone on to produce Japanese Listed winner Des Ailes (Deep Impact).

The gelding’s third dam Lunda (Soviet Star) produced three-time Group 3 winner Blue Monday (Darshaan) and Rugged Cross (Cape Cross), who landed the ATC Winter Stakes (Listed, 1400m) in 2015.

Further back this is the same family as fellow first season sire Mehmas (Acclamation).

New Bay total winners haul stands at nine and he is sitting sixth in the British first season sire table by number of winners and he stood at stud for a fee of €15,000.
