Son of Pivotal starts his journey to the Champions Stakes
Dual Australian Group 1 winner Addeybb (6 g Pivotal - Bush Cat by Kingmambo) showed he was on track for a crack at the Champions Stakes (Gr 1, 1m2f) at Ascot on October 17 when he landed the Doonside Cup Stakes (Listed, 1m2f) at Ayr on Saturday.
The William Haggas-trained six-year-old landed the Ranvet Stakes (Gr 1, 2000m) in March, before adding a second Australian Group 1 to his CV in the Queen Elizabeth Stakes (Gr 1, 2000m) in April.
The gelding returned to England after his victory in the Randwick Group 1 and finished second in the Prince of Wales's Stakes (Gr 1, 1m2f) at Royal Ascot before being sent for a break.
Ridden by Tom Marquand - who also guided him to his duo of elite level wins in Australia - Addeybb was having to be coaxed along with two furlongs left to travel, but he responded in his customary style, to glide through the pack, eventually coming away with a three-quarter length victory over Lord Glitters (Whipper). San Donato was another two and a quarter lengths away in third.
Addeybb is out of Bush Cat (Kingmambo) making him a half-brother to Grade 3-placed Meer Kat (Red Ransom) as well as five other winners.
Bush Cat herself is out of German Listed winner Arbusha (Danzig), making her a half-sister to Listed winner Busha’ (Mercer Mill) and Rip ‘N’ Run (Mercer Mill).
Further back this is the same family as Group 1 scorer Strategic Choice (Alleged) and Group 2 winner Nicholas (Danzig).
Addeybb is one of 31 Group 1 winners for the Cheveley Park Stud-based sire Pivotal (Polar Falcon), while he is one of five stakes winners, headed by two Group 1 winners bred on the Pivotal / Kingmambo (Mr. Prospector) with the other elite level scorer being Regal Parade.
