Sunny Queen shines in Hannover
The Coolmore Stud-based stallion Camelot (Montjeu) was handed his 34th stakes winner on Sunday when his daughter Sunny Queen (3 f ex Suivi by Darshaan) took out the Gorilla Millions Cup (Listed, 2400m) at Hannover.
The three-year-old filly came into the race off the back of a fourth place finish in the T von Zastrow Stutenpreis (Gr 2, 2400m) at Baden-Baden on September 12 and she proved too hard to catch when beating Episodia (Palace Episode) by three-quarters of a length, while Arktis (Jukebox Jury) was another nose away in third.
Purchased for €35,000 at the 2018 BBAG Baden-Baden September Yearling Sales, the filly is out of four time-winning Darshaan (Shirley Heights) mare Suivi making her a half-sister to Listed winner Suestado (Monsun).
Suivi herself is a half-sister to dual Group 2 winner Simoun (Monsun) and Listed-winning duo Shindig (Surumu) and Soudaine (Surumu), who in turn produced Group 2 scorer Savoir Vivre (Adlerflug) and Listed winner Sussudio (Nayef).
Suivi also counts Listed scorer Soignee (Dashing Blade) as one of her half-siblings and she produced multiple elite winner Stacelita (Monsun), who in turn is the dam of dual Japanese top-flight scorer Soul Stirring (Frankel) and Grade 3 winner Schon Glanz (Deep Impact).
Camelot stood in Australia for one season in 2014 and his capabilities as a stallion have been advertised by northern hemisphere-bred by Russian Camelot, who added a second Group 1 to his CV in the Underwood Stakes (Gr 1, 1800m) last weekend. The stallion stood at Coolmore’s base in Ireland for a fee of €40,000 in 2020.
