The Dermot Weld-trained Tarnawa (4 f Shamardal - Tarana by Cape Cross) proved herself to be one of the best fillies in training as she chalked up her second Group 1 in the Prix de l'Opera (Gr 1, 2000m) at Longchamp on Sunday.

Last seen landing the Prix Vermeille (Gr 1, 2400m) on September 13, the filly flew home to deny fellow Group 1 winner Alpine Star (Sea The Moon) by a short-neck, while Audarya (Wootton Bassett) finished another three-quarters of a length away in third.

Bred and raced by the Aga Khan, Tarnawa is out of dual Listed winner Tarana (Cape Cross).

Tarana herself is a daughter of fellow Listed scorer Tarakala (Dr Fong), who produced a further three winners.

Shamardal, dual Champion racehorse and a leading light on the Darley stallion roster for well over 10 years, was euthanised at Kildangan Stud earlier this year as a result of health issues.

The stallion is represented in Australia by his sire son Puissance De Lune, who stands at Swettenham Stud for a fee of $18,000 (plus GST), while Blue Point is covering his first book of mares at Darley’s Northwood Park base for a fee of $44,000 (inc GST).
