The Haras de Colleville-based Galiway (Galileo) was handed his first Group 1 winner on Sunday as his juvenile son Sealiway (2 c ex Kensea by Kendargent) produced an ultra impressive performance to win the Prix Jean-Luc Lagardere (Gr 1, 1400m) at Longchamp.

Bred and raced by Guy Pariente, the two-year-old colt - who won the Prix des Jouvenceaux et des Jouvencelles (Listed, 1400m) - on August 6 took the step up into Group 1 company in his stride, when beating Nando Parrado (Kodiac) by eight lengths, while Laws Of Indices (Power) was another three-quarters of a length away in third.

Purchased by Paul Nataf for €62,000 at the Arqana Deauville August Yearling Sale in 2019, Sealiway is one of two winners out of Listed winning mare Kensea (Kendargent). His second dam is Sea Island (Gold Away) whilst further back this is the family of Group 2 winners Another Dancer (Groom Dancer) and Ahzeemah (Dubawi).

Bred and raced by Wertheimer & Frere and trained by Andre Fabre, Galiway won the Prix le Fabuleux (Listed, 1800m) and stood for a fee of €10,000 at Haras de Colleville this year. Sealiway is one of three stakes winners for the stallion.

On the next race on the card, Tiger Tanaka (2 f ex Miss Phillyjinks by Zoffany) showed her class when landing the Prix Marcel Boussac (Gr 1, 1600m) and in the process became Clodovil’s (Danehill) third elite level winner.

Last seen winning the Prix Francois Boutin (Gr 3, 1400m), the two-year-old filly proved too hard to catch, eventually beating Tasmania (Zoffany) by three-quarters of a length.  Rougir - who is by Darley shuttler Territories (Invincible Spirit) - was another a further length and a half adrift in third.

Bought for only €6,500 by Pascale Menard at last year’s Tattersalls Ireland September Yearling Sale, Tiger Tanaka is the only winner out of winning mare Miss Phillyjinks (Zoffany) who is a half-sister to the dam of Listed winner Stormy Girl (Night Of Thunder). She is also from the family of stakes winners Snowdrops (Gulch) and Tawhid (Invincible Spirit).

Clodovil stood for a fee of €8,000 this year and his elite level winners include the former Chris Waller-trained multiple stakes winner Moriarty whose victories include the 2014 Kingston Town Classic (Gr 1, 1800m).
