The Jim Goldie-trained Euchen Glen (7 g ex Jabbara by Kingmambo) ran out a surprise winner of the Cumberland Lodge Stakes (Gr 3, 1m4f) at York on Friday and in the process handed Authorized (Montjeu) with his 34th stakes winner, while he also brought an end to the unbeaten record for last year’s St Leger Stakes (Gr 1, 1m6.5f) winner Logician (Frankel).

The seven-year-old gelding came out on top of a battle with Desert Encounter (Halling), eventually beating him by half a length, while the pair pulled nine lengths clear of Highland Chief (Gleneagles) in third. Logician never looked to be travelling well throughout the contest and trialled home another neck away in fourth.

Euchen Glen is one of four winners and first stakes winner out of three time-winning Kingmambo (Mr Prospector) mare Jabbara.

Jabbara herself is out of Group 3 winner Isle De France (Nureyev), making her a half-sister to the dam of dual Grade 1 winner and Arrowfield Stud shuttler Mikki Isle (Deep Impact), while she is also a half-sister to the dam of NHK Mile Cup (Gr 1, 1600m) winner Aerolithe (Kurofune) and dual Australian Listed winner Akari (Snitzel).

The gelding’s third dam is multiple Grade 1 winner Stella Madrid (Alydar), who is also the dam of Diamond Biko (Sunday Silence), while she is also the grandam of Grade 1 winner Lilacs And Lace (Flower Alley) - the dam of Grade 1 scorer three-time Grade 1 winner Lucky Lilac (Orfevre).

Authorized’s stakes winners are headed by six Group 1 winners including this season’s Irish Derby (Gr 1, 1m4f) winner Santiago, who holds an nomination for the Melbourne Cup (Gr 1, 3200m), while he is also the sire of Epsom Handicap (Gr 1, 1600m) winner Hartnell who also won the BMW (Gr 1, 2400m), Turnbull Stakes (Gr 1, 2000m) and CF Orr (Gr 1, 1400m).

Authorized shuttled to Australia for four seasons between 2009 and 2012 and now stands in Turkey after being purchased by the Turkish Jockey Club last year.
