Galileo’s stakes tally moves to 331

Aquis Farm co-owned Lone Eagle lands Zetland Stakes

The peerless Coolmore Stud-based sire Galileo (Sadler’s Wells) sired his 331st stakes winner on Saturday as Lone Eagle (2 c ex Modernstone by Duke Of Marmalade) - who is co-owned by Aquis Farm - landed the Zetland Stakes (Gr 3, 1m2f) at Newmarket. 

A winner of his two previous starts, the two-year-old colt stayed on stoutly to beat Recovery Run (Nathaniel) by a length and three-quarters, while Mystery Angel (Kodi Bear) finished another seven lengths further back in third. 

Purchased by Aquis Farm for 500,000gns at Book 1 of the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale from the Ballylinch Stud - who still remain in the ownership and the colt is out of Listed-winning mare Modernstone (Duke Of Marmalade) and she is a half-sister to Listed winner Chasing Stars (Observatory). 

The colt’s third dam is Modena (Roberto), whose 11 runners to race were all winners, headed by dual Group 1 winner Elmaamul (Diesis), Group 2 winner Manifest (Rainbow Quest), Group 3-winning duo Modern Day (Dayjur) and Modernise (Known Fact) and Listed winner High Walden (El Gran Senor). 

Modena is also the dam of dual Group 1-winning champion Reams Of Verse (Nureyev), the dam of Grade 3 winner Eagle Poise (Empire Maker), who in turn produced Listed scorer Many Volumes (Chester House) - the grandam of Celebration Mile (Gr 2, 1m) winner Zacinto (Dansili) and he stands at Valachi Downs in New Zealand. 

Further back this is same family as 2015 Herbert Power Stakes (Gr 2, 2400m) winner Amralah (Teofilo), 2014 Gosford Cup (Listed, 2100m) winner Midsummer Sun (Monsun) and New Zealand Group 2 winner and Group 1-placed Two Illicit (Jimmy Choux). 

The son of Galileo’s (Sadler’s Wells) progeny is headed by 89 Group 1 winners and he is represented in Australia this season by his sire sons Adelaide, Churchill and Highland Reel. He finished Book 1 of the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale as the leading sire by both aggregate and average with 14 lots having sold for 11,610,000gns at an avearge of 829,286gns.
