Multiple Group 1-winning Enable (Nathaniel) has run her last race and will now pursue a career as a broodmare sire, with Kingman (Invincible Spirit) set to be daughter of Nathaniel’s (Galileo) first cover.

The decision to retire the Juddmonte Farm’s homebred comes after she finished sixth place when trying to win a Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe (Gr 1, 2400m) for a historic third time.

“After consulting her trainer John Gosden and his Racing Manager Teddy Grimthorpe, Prince Khalid has decided that Enable will be retired from racing and will now join the Juddmonte broodmare band to be covered by Kingman in 2021,” said Douglas Erskine Crum, CEO Juddmonte.

She retires from a 19 race career, spanning five seasons, with 15 wins, including 11 at Group 1 level and record earnings for a European trained horse of £10.7 million.

The most successful performer ever in the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe with two wins and a second, an unprecedented three King George VI & Queen Elizabeth Stakes (Gr 1, 1m4f) victories, a win in the Oaks (Gr 1, 1m4f) and in the Irish equivalent, two wins in the Yorkshire Oaks (Gr 1, 1m4f) and victory in the Eclipse Stakes (Gr 1, 1m2f). The mare is also the only horse to win the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe and the Breeders’ Cup Turf (Gr 1, 12f) in the same year.

“She has brought so much joy to everyone who has been involved with her,” said Prince Khalid’s racing manager Teddy Grimthorpe.

“Her elegance and forceful personality have been nurtured by John and his team at Clarehaven, especially by Imran who has looked after her with such calm and devotion. In her, Frankie found a willing partner to execute her ability on the racecourse. Her CV withstands the closest of inspections, very few can match what she has given to racing.”

Enable is one of six winners out of Sadler’s Wells (Northern Dancer) mare Concentric, making her a half-sister to her stablemate Portrush (Frankel) - who broke her maiden earlier in the month, while she also counts Group 3-placed pair Contribution (Champs Elysees) and Entitle (Dansili) among her half-siblings.

The six-year-old’s second dam is Group 3 winner Apogee (Shirley Heights) - the dam of Prix Thomas Bryon (Gr 3, 1400m) winner Apsis (Barathea), Group 2 winner Dance Routine (Sadler’s Wells), who in turn is the dam of multiple Group 1 winner Flintshire (Dansili) and Listed scorer Dance Moves (Dansili).

Dance Routine is also the grandam of Grade 2 winner Projected (Showcasing) and Group 2 winner Headman (Kingman).

Apogee herself is also the dam of Listed winner Space Quest (Rainbow Quest) - the dam of Kocab (Unfuwain), who landed the Prix Matchem (Listed, 1800m).
