Arrowfield Stud shuttler Shalaa (Invincible Spirit) brought up his 20th first-crop winner on Monday, a day after notching his 19th, as his son Shershab (2 c ex Gherdaiya by Shamardal) landed a race over 1500 metres at Marseille Pont de Vivaux.

The Al Shaqab-owned three-year-old colt, who was having the third start of his career, beat Meaning Of The Challenge (Youmzain) by a length, while Roxy Music (Prince Gibraltar) came home in third.

Shershab is the first foal out of dual-winning Group 3-placed Gherdaiya (Shamardal), who is herself a daughter of First Fleet (Woodman) and she is therefore a sister to Group 3 winner French Navy, while she is a half-sister to Sea Lord (Cape Cross).

Shalaa’s first southern hemisphere-bred crop include his Breeders’ Plate (Gr 3, 1000m) winning son Shaquero and Group 3 placed daughter Nice For What, whilst in the northern hemisphere he has sired three stakes performers in No Speak Alexander, Legal Attack and Saeiqa.

Shalaa’s 2021 fee at Haras de Bouquetot has been set at €15,000.
