My Oberon shines in Earl Of Sefton Stakes at Newmarket for William Haggas
The William Haggas-trained My Oberon (4 c ex My Titania by Sea the Stars) produced an impressive performance to win the Earl Of Sefton Stakes (Gr 3, 1m1f) at Newmarket on Wednesday and in the process handed Darley’s stalwart stallion Dubawi (Dubai Millennium) with his second new stakes winner in as many days, which sees his total tally of black-type winners swell to 202.
Ridden by James Doyle, the four-year-old tracked the leading pair Marie’s Diamond (Footstepsinthesand) and Global Giant (Shamardal) for much of the contest, before easily breezing past them, to post a comfortable two and a half length victory over Marie’s Diamond. San Donato (Lope De Vega) was another two lengths away in third.
It was a much deserved stakes success for My Oberon with the colt having finished second in both the Thoroughbred Stakes (Gr 3, 1m) and Superior Mile Stakes (Gr 3, 1m) as a three-year-old.
The colt is out of Group 3-winning Sea The Stars (Cape Cross) mare My Titania and she is herself a daughter of Listed winner Fairy Of The Night (Danehill) - the dam of Group 2 scorer Muthmir (Invincible Spirit), while she is also the grandam of Listed scorer Gorgeous Noora (Raven’s Pass).
My Oberon’s third dam Sassenach (Night Shift) produced Grade 3 winner Dress Rehearsal (Galileo) and she in turn produced Listed-winning duo Traisha (Invincible Spirit) and Baby Pink (Invincible Spirit).
Dubawi has sired 21 stakes winners in Australia, headed by Group 1-winning quartet; Srikandi, Secret Admirer, Tiger Tess, Shamal Wind and Benbatl.
The stallion became the first British-bred stallion to sire 200 stakes winners when Philomene landed the Prix Penelope Stakes (Gr 3, 2000m) at Saint-Cloud last week and he added to his total tally on Tuesday when Highland Avenue landed the Feilden Stakes (Listed, 1m1f) at Newmarket.
