Caravaggio’s (Scat Daddy) good start to his career at stud picked up more pace on Monday as the former Coolmore Stud shuttler sired his third first-crop winner courtesy of Contarelli Chapel’s (2 f ex Chenchikova - Sadler’s Wells) victory over six furlongs at Naas.

The Aidan O’Brien-trained filly surged clear in the final furlong, quickly putting daylight between herself and her rivals, eventually beating Juncture (Dark Angel) by five and a half lengths. Freedom Of Speech (Australia) was another neck away in third.

The royally-bred filly becomes the seventh winner out of stakes-placed Sadler’s Wells (Northern Dancer) mare Chenchikova.

The mare’s winners are headed by dual Group 1 winner Fancy Blue (Deep Impact) and Listed winners Casterton (Fastnet Rock) and Smuggler’s Cove (Fastnet Rock), who was also placed at Group 1 level.

Chenchikova is herself a sister to multiple Group 1-winning champion and late successful sire High Chaparral and Group 2 winner Black Bear Island, while she is also a half-sister to the dam 2019 Moonee Valley Gold Cup (Gr 2, 2500m) winner Hunting Horn (Camelot) and fellow Group 2 scorer David Livingston (Galileo).

Further back this is the same family as Group 3 winner Love Locket (No Nay Never) and Listed scorer Raakib Alhawa (Kingman).

Caravaggio shuttled to Coolmore Australia for one season in 2018, where he covered 143 mares and Contarelli Chapel joins Tenebrism and Elliptic as the stallion’s other winners.
