La Lune lands Nottinghamshire Oaks Stakes
The Henry Candy-trained La Lune (5 m ex Moonlight Mystery by Pivotal) added some valuable black-type to her record when she became stakes winner number 32 for late Juddmonte Farms-based sire Champs Elysees (Dansili) in the Nottinghamshire Oaks Stakes (Listed, 1m2.5f) on Tuesday.
The five-year-old mare - who finished second in the Castle Stakes (Listed, 1m4f) in June last year - stayed on stoutly to beat Freyja (Gleneagles) by a neck, while Black Lotus (Declaration Of War) was another three lengths away in third.
La Lune is one of three winners out of winning Pivotal (Polar Falcon) mare Moonlight Mystery and she is herself a daughter of Listed winner Mauri Moon (Green Desert).
The mare’s third dam is Listed scorer Dazzling Heights (Shirley Heights) - the dam of Listed scorer Kimbridge Knight (Night Shift), while she is also the grandam 2015 Sunline Stakes (Gr 2, 1600m) winner Noble Protector (Haafhd) and Group 3 scorer All Shamar (Shamardal).
Selino’s victory in Sydney Cup (Gr 1, 3200m) on April 17 provided Champs Elysees with his fifth top-flight winner and they also include dual Australian Cup (Gr 1, 2000m) winner Harlem.
The stallion died of a heart attack in 2018.
