The first lot through the ring at Monday’s Magic Millions Gold Coast National Yearling Sale marked the end of an era with the colt being the final yearling by Redoute’s Choice to sell at public auction.

Offered as Lot 1401 by Arrowfield Stud, the colt is out of La Fouine Tail (Neo Universe) and he was bought for $210,000 by Waller Racing and Mulcaster Bloodstock.

Fittingly, the colt was sold by David Chester who auctioneered the first ever yearling by Redoute’s Choice to sell in 2003, a colt who was bred and sold by Newhaven Park and bought for $50,000 by Alan Scorse. He was later named Private Certifier and went on to win seven races.

The son of Danehill (Danzig) had just 16 yearlings sell in 2021 with a top price of $800,000 at an average of $440,312 and Guy Mulcaster noted what a remarkable career Redoute’s Choice had in the sales ring.

“I think that he’s had over 900 horses sold during his career, so that’s pretty amazing,” Mulcaster told Racing & Sports.

The colt is the second living foal out of La Fouine Tail who won over 1800 metres in Japan and he was passed in with a reserve of $300,000 at the Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale. Mulcaster said that he had liked the colt when he saw him earlier in the year.

“We’ve seen that horse previously and we liked him,” he said. “He didn’t manage to sell and I think we picked him up at a pretty good price today. He was fully subscribed ten minutes after he left the ring, so that was a bonus.”
