Dam of Pulpit dies at the age of 31

Claiborne Farm announced on Twitter on Wednesday that Preach (Mr Prospector) has died due to the infirmities of old age. She was 31. 

"With a heavy heart we share that one of the queens of Claiborne Farm, Preach has passed away at the age of 31. A G1W herself, Preach produced the breed-shaping Pulpit & has left a lasting legacy as both a racehorse and broodmare—she will be deeply missed by all of us at Claiborne," the Tweet read. 

A four-time winner including of the Frizette Stakes (Gr 1, 8f), Preach produced 14 foals of which 12 raced and all were winners. Her first foal was Pulpit (A P Indy), a Grade 2 winner and leading sire. At stud he produced 74 stakes winners headed by 12 Grade 1 winners including leading Gainesway Farm-based sire Tapit. 

Preach's daughters included Convent (A P Indy), the dam of stakes winner Nunnery (Forest Wildcat) who produced multiple Listed winner Nun The Less (Candy Ride) as well as Tell It (Storm Cat), dam of stakes winner Dream Nettie (Dixie Union) and Ranter (Storm Cat), dam of Graded winner Wild Shot (Trappe Shot). Her Group 3-placed daughter Urban Poet (Dynaformer) was a US$2.9 million Keeneland September Yearling Sale graduate. 

Preach was retired from stud duties in 2013.
