Group One Quinella For Redoute's Choice

Progeny by champion Australian sire Redoute’s Choice filled a Group One quinella in South Africa on Saturday when his five-year-old entire Wylie Hall beat champion fily Majmu in the President’s Champions Challenge over 2000m at Turffontein.

Wylie Hall, a 5YO stallion by Redoute’s Choice from Beauty Belle (Ideal Planet) scored by a length and a quarter over the odds-on favourite Majmu.

Wylie Hall, sold by Newhaven Park Stud to World Wide Bloodstock for $205,000 at the 2011 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale, is one of 27 G1 winners by Redoute’s Choice, Australia’s champion sire three times.

He is a half brother to seven winners including the ill-fated Hong Kong champion sprinter Absolute Champion from the Sydney winner Beauty Belle, a sister to Roanoke Boy and half sister to Voltage, the stakes placed dam of Group performers Anamato, Drum and Port Watch.

Absolute Champion raced as Genius And Evil in Australia where he won the G2 Pago Pago Stakes while his HK career saw him win the Hong Kong Sprint in record time, Chairman's Sprint Prize and Centenary Sprint Cup.

Beauty Belle's other winners include four time Hong Kong winner Amazing Venture, Melbourne winner Iridescente and Sydney winner Dream A Dream.

Another of her winners Two Beauties, is the dam of this season's winning and stakes performed Perth juvenile Chengdu.

The win was redemption for Wylie Hall, was first home in last year's Vodacom Durban July only to be disqualified and demoted to second place.

Wylie Hall, who won the G2 Colorado King Stakes at his previous outing and won the G1 SA Derby as a 3YO, is trained by Weiho Marwing.

He has now won six of his 19 outings and earned over R3.6 million for owner Michael Leaf.

Majmu’s trainer Mike De Kock still enjoyed a fine day at Turffontein as he saddled three winners including two G1 wins in the R1 million Computaform Sprint with Alboran Sea and the SA Oaks with Pine Princess.

Alboran Sea also is an Australian-bred by Rock of Gibraltar and is owned by Mary Slack and Michael Javett. This was her third G1 win.

The Rosemont Stud-bred Alboran Sea (Rock Of Gibraltar x Lady’s Light by Toolighttoquit) was purchased by Form Bloodstock for $105,000 at the 2013 Inglis Melbourne Premier Yearling Sale.

She is one of 11 G1 by former Coolmore shuttler Rock Of Gibraltar.

Another Australian-bred, the More Than Ready filly Entisaar won the won the G2 SA Fillies Nursery.

Entisaar has won 2 of her 3 starts and has earned R383 750 in stakes to date.

The winner races in the blue and white silks of Sheikh Hamdan and was bred in Australia by Echo Beach Bloodstock.

She is the first winner for the G3 placed Catbird mare Purrpurrlena, a daughter of stakes-winner Magdalena.

She was purchased by Shadwell for $A300,000 from the draft of Vinery Stud.

Pine Princess, a South African-bred by Captain Al, caused an upset in the SA Oaks

beating the favourite Siren's Call by a short head.

Siren’s Call had won the first two legs of the Triple Tiara, and was bidding to become just the third filly ever to complete the treble.

Pine Princess is owned by Maine Chance Farms in partnership with Coolmore's Susan Magnier and Mrs. Paul Shanahan.

The G1 SA Derby was won in impressive fashion by the lightly raced South African-bred gelding Legal Eagle (Greys Inn) for leading trainer Sean Tarry.

He is now the winner of three of his five outings for Markus and Ingrid Jooste.

The other G1 race on the day was the SA Nursery for juveniles over 1160m and was won by Black Minnaloushe's South African-bred son Arabian Beat from the well-related Redoute's Choice filly Shaama.
