Dubawi Does It Again

Dubawi’s star son Postponed landed his biggest career victory on Saturday with a thrilling nose victory in the G1 King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes at Ascot.

Never out of the first three, the Luca Cumani-trained Postponed took a commanding lead in the straight before holding off the late challenge of Eagle Top for a nose victory

The 4YO Postponed (Dubawi x Ever Rigg by Dubai Destination) became the 21st G1 winner by the former Darley shuttle sire Dubawi, a son of the late Dubai Millenium.

Bred by St Albans Bloodstock, Postponed is out of the winning Dubai Destination mare Ever Rigg, a daughter of the Irish G1-winning juvenile Bianca Nera.

Dubai Destination is also the broodmare sire of Derby hero Golden Horn, a late withdrawal from the King George due to the soft ground.

Postponed was bought for 360,000 guineas by agents Charlie Gordon-Watson and John Warren on behalf of owner Mohammed Obaid at Book 1 of the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale, having been consigned to the sale by Highclere Stud.

Postponed was ridden by Andrea Atzeni for the first time after owner Sheikh Mohammed Obaid Al Maktoum replaced regular rider Adam Kirby.

Cumani, celebrating a belated first King George win, said, "It was a fantastic race and Andrea gave him a peach of a ride.

“He was ready for this. I wasn’t sure about the ground, but he’s shown he can handle any ground. This is very special.”

Dubawi is enjoying a sensational year with Postponed his ninth individual G1 winner in 2015.

His other major winners this year have included Lockinge Stakes hero Night Of Thunder, the evergreen Al Kazeem, French three-year-old stars New Bay and Erupt and Dubai World Cup winner Prince Bishop.

His total of nine G1 winners is more than double any other sire this year.

Dubawi’s total of Group winners for the year rose to 18 on Friday when his juvenile daughter Tanaza stepped up in class to win the G3 Silver Flash Stakes at Leopardstown for trainer Dermot Weld and her owner-breeder The Aga Khan.

Weld indicated that Tanaza, a daughter of the G2 placed Dalakhani mare Tanoura, will now head for the G1 Moyglare Stud Stakes on September 13.
