Oaks Winner Adds Gold Cup

Last season’s G1 New Zealand Oaks winner More Than Sacred added to her stakes tally when she took out the G3 Waikato Gold Cup at Te Rapa.

The four-year-old, who is raced by her breeders Raffles Dancer, was winning her third stakes race with trainer Tony Pike and Mark Donoghue hoping she will complete a hat-trick of cup wins in City of Auckland Cup at Ellerslie on New Year’s Day and then go on to the Wellington Cup.

More Than Sacred (More Than Ready x Danalaga by Danehill) is the winner of five of her 13 career starts for NZ$318,475 in prize money.

She is the only foal out of the Listed winner Danalaga to race.

Her third dam is the stakes placed Fruition (Rheingold), dam of dual G1 winner Northern Spur (Sadler’s Wells) and Group winner Great Marquess (Touching Wood).

* STEEL Rose became the first stakes winner for her sire Guillotine when she won the Listed Wentwood Grange Stakes at Te Rapa on December 14.

Guillotine, a Windsor Park-based son of Montjeu, has two crops of racing age.

Steel Rose, a 2YO filly from the Viking Ruler mare Aga Panther, is part-owned by her trainer John Wheeler and had finished third on debut at Otaki three weeks ago.

Steel Rose is the only named foal of her unraced dam. She has now garnered NZ$33,250 from her two career starts.

* PIZZAZZ ( Bertolini x Endrita by End Sweep) won Saturday’s Listed Shaw’s Wire Ropes Sprint at Te Rapa to become the 18th stakes winner for his deceased Danzig sire.

Bertolini died in France earlier this year at the age of 17.
