Winners Lining Up For Magic Millions Raceday

The young and the old provided Warwick Farm trainer Gary Portelli with a Magic Millions double at Rosehill on Saturday.

Stable favourite Testashadow (Testa Rossa x Moonlight Shadow by Flying Spur) wound back the clock and booked another trip to the $10 million Magic Millions raceday at the Gold Coast in January when he won the G3 Festival Stakes (1500m).

The six-year-old recorded his previous win in the Magic Millions Cup (1400m) at the Gold Coast in January and wil be aiming to complete the double next month.

Portelli had earlier added to his excellent record with 2YOs when Pierro filly Perfect Pitch won the Rosehill juvenile event at her second start.

A son of former Magic Millions 2YO Classic winner Testa Rossa, Testashadow was purchased by Elite Thoroughbreds for $50,000 from the Eliza Park draft at the 2013 Gold Coast Yearling Sale.

Testashadow is now the winner of eight races in 37 starts and his earnings have shot to over $1.32 million.

He is one of five named foals out of the winning Flying Spur mare Moonlight Shadow, the dam of one other winner.

His second dam is the G3-placed Crestfallen (Rivotious), who has produced six winner and is a half-sister to the dam of dual G1 winner and sire Zoustar (Northern Meteor).

Perfect Pitch (Pierro x Absolutely Flying by Commands) was purchased by Laurel Oak Bloodstock for $100,000 at the Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale last January.

Her dam Absolutely Flying is a half-sister to the G3 winner Camporella (Exceed And Excel).

TALENTED Brisbane sprinter Monsieur Gustave (Al Maher x Saigon Moonlight by Stravinsky) won his fourth straight black type race at Doomben when he held on for a nose win in the G3 George Moore Stakes.

Prepared on the Sunshine Coast by Darryl Hansen, Monsieur Gustave was a $34,000 purchase for McLachlan Place Racing at the 2014 Gold Coast Magic Millions Yearling Sale.

Monsieur Gustave won the rescheduled Listed Nudgee Quality first-up at Ipswich last month. Before a break he won the Eye Liner Stakes at Ipswich and the Glasshouse Sprint at Caloundra, both at Listed level.

He has been set for the $1 million Magic Millions Cup (1400m) at the Gold Coast on January 12 but first will head to the Listed Lough Neagh Stakes (1350m) at Doomben on 16 December and the Listed Buffering Quality (1200m) a fortnight later in search of a $500,000 bonus.

Monsieur Gustave has won eight races and placed in three of his 17 career starts for prize money of $535,900.

The gelding is one of five named foals out of the unraced Saigon Moonlight, a sister to the G3 winner Estelle Collection, the dam of multiple G1 winner Lankan Rupee (Redoute’s Choice).

She is also a blood-sister to the G2 winner La Sizeranne (Stravinsky), dam of Listed winner Za Moulin Rouge (Street Cry). The latter is the dam of G1 Australian Derby winner Tavago (Tavistock).

Monsieur Gustave’s second dam is the G2 placed Ana Zeel (Zabeel) while third dam My Tricia (Hermes) produced G1 stars Grosvenor (Sir Tristram) and National Gallery (Sir Tristram).

The family includes champion and sire Lonhro, three-time G1 winner Niello and first season sire Albrecht.

QUALITY mare Egyptian Symbol (Stratum x Our Egyptian Raine by Desert Sun) is heading to her third Magic Millions raceday in January after she stormed home to win the Listed Starlight Stakes at Rosehill.

Trainer Bjorn Baker is hoping the five-year-old Stratum mare will be able to win a million dollar feature after close up efforts in her previous visits to Queensland's richest race day.

A graduate of the 2014 Magic Millions National Yearling Sale, Egyptian Symbol is from the former outstanding racemare Our Egyptian Raine and is a future breeding star for Cressfield Stud.

"She is a high-quality mare and has won a lot of good races so it's a big thrill to get her back in winning form," Baker said. "You always hope they will come back better than ever but you never know until they do it."

ARROWFIELD Stud’s Not A Single Doubt sired his 49th stakes winner when Sydney filly Pretty Fast raced to victory in the Listed Mode Plate at Doomben for her fourth successive win.

Pretty Fast (Not a Single Doubt x Miss Sharapova) was purchased by Tim Stakemire from the Arrowfield draft at last year's Gold Coast Yearling Sale for $650,000 for Sheikh Mohammed Bin Khalifa Al Maktoum.

Co-trainers Peter and Paul Snowden have confirmed the $2 million Gold Coast Magic Millions 3YO Guineas (1400m) on January 13 is the aim for the rising star.

“We think 1200 metres is her right distance but she is a Magic Millions horse,” said Snowden. “The Magic Millions Guineas is 1400 metres but it's worth $2 million so we have to think about it."

Not A Single Doubt has 36 yearlings catalogued for the January’s Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale.
