Miracle Mile draw against Leap To Fame’s bid for historic treble

Champion pacer Leap To Fame will have to overcome a wide draw if he is to create a piece of history in Saturday night’s Miracle Mile at Menangle.

His bid to become the first pacer to win the Inter Dominion Final, Hunter Cup and Miracle Mile in the one campaign was dealt a blow by the draw with the Queensland star to start from barrier seven in the eight-horse field if emergencies are withdrawn as expected.

The draw threw the $1million Grand Circuit feature on its head with Chariots of Fire winner Frankie Ferocious drawing widest while the horses that won last week's qualifying sprints from the extreme outside - Speak The Truth and Hi Manameisjeff - will both start closer to the pegs in gates one and five respectively.

Leap To Fame comes into the Miracle Mile as the fresh horse having qualified 15 days ago through the Newcastle Mile while his rivals are all on a one-week turnaround.

Freshness could prove the key to the stallion who is more suited to longer distances with trainer/driver Grant Dixon carefully planning his program to keep the dash in his legs.

The speed map suggests Leap To Fame will have to sit away from the pegs and work and while he was bravely beaten in a couple of major events under those circumstances last season he is clearly a better horse now.

The Miracle Mile is traditionally a high-pressure affair with abundant early speed and that could turn the race into a staying test, a scenario would play to Leap To Fame's favour.

The Miracle Mile has been on the radar for Hi Manameisjeff for a long time and the race suits the seven-year-old perfectly given that he is unbeaten in nine starts at Menangle and six attempts over the mile.

He was terrific in last week's Allied Express Sprint when he had enough gate speed to cross from the outside to find the front before fighting strongly in the run home.

From a lower draw he should have the gate speed to push to the front again and he will be hard to catch from that position.

Speak The Truth took a big step up to the top level when winning the Cordina Group Sprint from the extreme outside last week, taking his record at the circuit and distance to two from two.

He is progressive and must be a player from the ace draw.

Chariots of Fire winner Frankie Ferocious cops the widest draw but he is flying and possesses the gate speed to cross and find a prominent spot.

Chariots winners have been very competitive in the Miracle Mile in recent years with Catch A Wave completing the double last year. He is good enough to follow in those footsteps.

The draw has fallen perfectly for boom Kiwi We Walk By Faith in the Group 1 NSW Derby earlier on the program.

The gelding had enough pace to work to the front from the outside draw for a soft win in last week's heat, his first Australian outing.

We Walk By Faith comes into this third up so should be peaking and will be hard to catch if he can control the race from the front.

Bay Of Biscay was brave in last week's heat when he came from this same barrier to lead before digging deep.

He won his only previous third-up attempt so should have come on further.

Nathan Street broke early but came home strongly to miss Bay Of Biscay by just a head last week. He is already a G1 winner at this circuit where he owns a 50 per cent strike rate and could be a threat.

Sergeant Lou draws wider than in his Simpson Memorial win last time but that made it three from three this time in so he must rate highly. Ravishing Sloy also cops a wider draw than in his heat win but his strike rate at Menangle is impressive and he will be peaking.

Constantinople takes on some big guns in the Group 1 Hammerhead Trotters Mile but he loves the track, last week working forward to lead before going on to score by 12m.

That took his Menangle record to eight from nine and while he drops back in distance he is three from three at the mile.

He draws out but is going well enough to overcome that.

European import Callmethebreeze claimed the scalp of champion trotter Just Believe in winning the Great Southern Star two back at Melton before looking a little off his game when fourth to that same rival last time.

He'll relish the mile having won seven of 13 at the distance and is a big chance with his A-game.

Arcee Phoenix sat parked and went under by just a nose behind Just Believe last start at Melton, easily beating Callmethebreeze home. He is a trotter on the up and is a player from a similar draw.

Im Ready Jet is a good mare who placed in this race last year from a much wider barrier. She deserves respect from the ace draw.

Better Eclipse has been performing well against the top level all campaign and gets the right draw for a well-deserved win in the Group 2 Ainsworth Australian Light Horse Free For All.

Runner up in the Inter Dominion Final late last year, he was fourth two back in the Hunter Cup and midfield in the Allied Express Sprint last week.

Better Eclipse has yet to miss a place over this distance at this circuit and was a Melton winner over Dont Stop Dreaming from the ace draw three back.

Rock N Roll Doo has been ticking along well, placing here two back before a fourth in last week's Cordina Group Sprint. He will be hitting peak fitness fourth up so could show his best.

Captains Knock did a great job for a 2.5m third from a wide draw in the Chariots of Fire last week. He tackles older rivals but won his lone try at this longer distance and is reliable.

Not the best of draws for Kiwi visitor Its Merlin but his Chariots effort was sound and his best is good enough to win this.
