Small team for champion trainer at Randwick

Having won his past two starts in Queensland, Kapakiri returns to the Sydney fray in a recipe his trainer has used successfully before.

Chris Waller will have a relatively light representation at Randwick with runners in just four of the 10 races, including a galloper he describes as a "heartbreak horse" and another following a well-worn path back to Sydney.

Waller has paid up for seven runners but that could be reduced by one with Robusto an uncertain starter after drawing wide in the Precise Air Handicap (1400m).

Four-year-old Kapakiri is a definite starter in the Toyota Forklifts Handicap (2000m) after being scratched from assignments at Eagle Farm and Canterbury.

After going winless at his first 12 starts, the gelding has put together back-to-back victories in Queensland at his past two runs and speaking on his Weekly Runners' Preview, Waller says Kapakiri has now earned his way back into the Sydney stable.

"He's gone up to Queensland and he's found some form, found some confidence," Waller said.

"It just shows you, it's not a one-way ticket to Queensland when some of these horses go up.

"In fact, it's the making of a lot of horses' careers, including Winx."

Kapakiri will line up against stablemates Caboche  and Lyrical Gangster Caboche looking to build on a brace of minor placings at Rosehill, while Lyrical Gangster has been mixing his form.

"Bit of a heartbreak horse this," Waller said of Lyrical Gangster.

"Two starts ago he was a brilliant winner, then things didn't quite work out for him at Kembla on the wet track.

"(Caboche is) dropping back from 2400 and he has been pretty consistent without winning at his last few starts but he'll run a nice race."

Waller will also have stayer Kirkeby, who he expects to improve on whatever he does first-up in the Cactus Imaging Handicap (1600m), the lightly raced Louisville in the Precise Air Handicap and Gracilistyla in the final event.
