MACAU: More Success For One-Eyed Star

One eyed galloper Sino Brilhante continued on his winning way with another sterling win over 1050 metres on Saturday's all weather card at Taipa.

The bay son of Good Journey made it six wins from only eight starts in Macau with his other two efforts resulting in two second placings, all on the sand.

Ridden for the first time by Fausto Durso Sino Brilhante again made a mess of the start, coming out a conspicuous last three lengths off the speed set up by Felsham and Copper Alloy.

Durso fired the three year old up quickly to recover and share the lead from the six hundred, then found plenty over the final stages to hold off a brave Copper Alloy (Breinell Yamzon) and win by a neck, with race favorite Oakcrest Drive (Manoel Nunes) in third.

Trainer Gary Moore is excited about the future prospects for Sino Brilhante who was purchased by the Gary’s son James Moore at the 2011 Adelaide Magic Millions.

“James picked him out of the Adelaide Sale and I liked him instantly.” Moore said.

“He was well balanced, a lovely type and as soon as I seen him moving along from the DVD’s sent from the farm I knew he was something special.”

The gelding unfortunately suffered an injury in the paddock losing the sight of his right eye which is going to limit his future prospects as an international contender.

“It’s a pity he lost that eye as there is not many places in the world that accept these horses now.”

Moore will now rest Sino Brilhante in readiness for the Lisboa Three Year Old Series early next year and feels certain the youngster will be equally adept on the turf.

“The sire has three Group winners on the turf in Australia and they have won over some distance and I am sure he will be every bit as good on the grass.”

Good Journey is the sire of Happy Trails, winner of the G1 Emirates over the Melbourne Cup carnival as well as Grand Journey winner of the G1 WATC Derby and Sound Journey, a G2 winner in Australia.

Moore has again got a flying start on his opposition in his quest for his seventh Macau trainer’s title with an eight win lead on 23 wins over Alan Tam’s 15, with Geoff Allendorf in third spot on 14.

* SATURDAY saw a number of future stars strut their stuff and one in particular was the Joe Lau prepared Sacred Hustler who made it three wins from three starts on the all weather under regular jockey Peter Ho.

Sacred Hustler justified his red hot starting price of $1.1 to burst away from his rivals to easily win the Class 3 over 1050 metres.

A son of Hussonet Sacred Hustler has oozed class since the day he arrived in the enclave and is on a fast track for the top shelf.

The four year old chestnut gelding had ran a close third in a Cambridge trial to the unbeaten Group winner Mosse who has won five from five in New Zealand, and again underlined the class of some of Macau’s recent imports.

Newcomer Master Chow was another that impressed in his debut in the Three and Four Year Old 0 to 50 rated contest over 1050 metres under jockey Louis Corrales.

Prepared by Patrick Lee, the three year old son of the former USA speedster Rusty Spur was far too good in the first of the day despite displaying greenness to beat the favorite Billingsgate (Manoel Nunes), with Bright Dragon (Fausto Durso) in third.

Master Chow’s time was full of merit clocking 1.02.8 just a tick slower then Sacred Hustler (1.02.7) and not far way from the 1.02.4 put up by Sino Brilhante in the Class 2.

Louis Corrales made it a double for the afternoon when The Drunk Bird had no trouble maintaining a straight line to easily win the last of the day the Class 2 & 3 over 1700 metres.

Trained by K C Wong The Drunk Bird made three wins on the trot on the all weather, and simply jogged in the run under Corrales to romp home by three lengths from Golden Shooter (Roger Yu), with Rusharound (Manoel Nunes) in third.

The four year chestnut son of Starcraft is fast nudging the $1million mark in stakes money for his connections from only eight starts in Macau.
