MACAU: Moore Unleashes A New Star

Trainer Gary Moore produced another star in the making when Testa Rossa two year old Good Master destroyed his rivals at his sand debut at Taipa.

Good Master under jockey Louis Corrales was never in doubt after being fired out of the gates to lead easily, before powering away to win by five lengths.

Good Master’s time for the C5 contest which has a rating band of 40-20 was outstanding at 1.02.1 for the 1050 metres, snipping .02 off the old class record held by Bello.

Later in the night Gruenfeld posted exactly the same time in the Class 2 & 3 which has a rating band of 80 to 60 to further emphasize the merit in Good Master’s win.

“This is my gun three year old for next season,” Moore said after the win.

“What he showed and the time he posted was more impressive then Sino Brilhante at the same stage.”

Although he went through the 2012 Magic Millions Yearling Sale, the colt was later purchased privately by Moore for owner John Yuen Se Kit of Good Ba Ba fame.

“My son James went out and inspected him and liked what he seen,” Moore said.

“He is by a sire I have a lot of time for in Testa Rossa whose progeny are doing so well in Asia.

“He is a great looking colt and I am very happy that Dr. Yuen has another good horse.”

At his debut run on the turf Good Master looked a bit lost after a tardy getaway and was beaten over five lengths.

"I was a bit anxious in running him first time out as he was not really there.” Moore added.

“With blinkers on and the sand he really put it together. He is bred to run a lot further then 1050 metres so I am very excited about him.”

The Testa Rossa breed have all done very well on the all weather surface in Macau and with the colt’s dam Funicular’s US influence in her sire Jade Robbery and mother Top Station by Palace Music, it’s little wonder the youngster excelled on the sand.

Gary Moore made it a double for the night when Truly Heart a recent addition to the stable led throughout under Stanley Chin to win the Class 4 & 5 over 1350 metres .

Having his fourth run for the yard the five year old son of Ishiguru appreciated the drop back in distance and fought back tenaciously when challenged and will win again in the 30 to 50 rating band.

Moore has safely wrapped up his seventh Macau trainer’s title with 56 winners to date, 22 ahead of Geoff Allendorf with only 10 race days remaining.

* PANAMANIAN rider Louis Corrales took riding honours with a winning double to take him within five winners off premiership leader Brazilian Fausto Durso.

Durso on 41 is three ahead of Manoel Nunes (38) with Corrales next on 36 winners.

Corrales a product of the MJC Apprentice School was the leading junior rider of his year out-riding his claim in double quick time and has been mixing it with the senior riding ranks since a very tender age.

Runner up to Irishman Robbie Burke in 2002 and again to South African Gavan Van Zyl in 2003, Corrales has yet to win a senior title but gets his chance this season with 10 meetings remaining, and the absence of Manoel Nunes who has elected to stay in Singapore.

Corrales posted a quick race to race double on Friday night with Good Master (Class 5) and Good Racing in the Class 4 & 5 over 1350 metres.

Whilst we witnessed a star in the making in Good Master, the win of Good Racing was outstanding as he worked hard from gate nine the whole trip.

Just when he was entitled to throw it in the son of English Channel (USA) showed more fight then a tiger shark on steroids to bravely hold off Short Cut (Charles Perkins), with Blitzing Eyesight (Stanley Chin) running third.

Prepared by Craig Marshall Good Racing has now won five times and placed nine from his 38 starts and has just topped the $1 million HKD mark for connections.
