Macau Has A New Sand Star

Chairman’s Vote is stamping himself as Macau's new sand specialist with a last stride victory in the Class 2 Handicap on Sunday’s mixed sand and turf race day at Taipa.

Ridden by Charlie Chan, Chairman’s Vote made it three wins at the distance when he stretched late to grab the longshot Pacers Bahare (Akash Aucharuz) by short head, with Oh So Simple (Breinell Yamzon) back in third.

A son of the 2007 Kentucky Derby winner Street Sense, Chairman’s Vote kicked off his racing career for Anthony Cummings with a win in Wyong maiden his only victory for the stable.

A transfer to the Andrew Williamson stable at the Sunshine Coast saw the gelding win a Class 1 event at Corbould Park, before his was then purchased by Macau trainer Tommy Tse.

Whilst his racing in Australia was confined to the turf, Chairman’s Vote has the perfect pedigree for a sand performer with his dam Zembu the granddaughter of another Kentucky Derby winner in Sunday Silence.

In his earlier races in Macau the gelding was used for his early speed and chalked up seven minor placings before Tse found the key, albeit by accident, to the now six year old. Three starts back in what was not a pre arranged move, jockey Charlie Chan took the option to come back from a wide gate in race run at hot speed. The gelding was last for most part of the race before unleashing a powerhouse finish to storm home for a big win.

In Sunday’s win it was the same formula with the gelding back second last in the run and showing that he wasn’t at all fazed by the kickback to put himself into the race before the turn. Once into space he again showed a brilliant turn of foot to rocket home down the outside for victory.

Tommy Tse and Chairman’s Votes connection’s the Golden Pistols Racing Syndicate made it a quick race to race double with Golden Commandment winning the next event the Class 4 & 5 over 1500 metres on the turf.

Golden Commandment under regular rider Peter Lao hit the line hard to beat Destney (Luis Corrales) by three quarters of a length, with Florence Elite (Breinell Yamzon) close up in third.

The win by Golden Commandment made it three wins and two placed efforts from his last five runs. A son of Husson (Arg) from the Danehill mare Lilakyn, Golden Commandment is another winner from the first Online Sales Series conducted by the MJC.

A $35,000 Aud purchase at the 2014 Gold Coast Magic Millions Sale, Golden Commandment has returned his owners close to $400,000 HKD in prize money.

The speedy Happy Bunny chalked up win number five when he made light work of his wide gate to lead easily in the run, before just clinging on to win by a short head from the fast finishing Chok King (Andrew Calder), in the last of the day the Class 2 & 3 over 1100 metres on the turf.

Happy Bunny of son of Fully Fledged (NZ) possesses dazzling speed and would be at present one of the fastest in Macau over the sprint distances. The problem plagued five year old sometimes runs too hard for his own good despite the efforts of his rider, but with the step back to the 1100 metres he was always going to take catching on Sunday.

The run by Chok King was outstanding as he was just held up a touch behind the $1.8 favorite Starkiller in the run and needed that gelding to get him into the race earlier.

Chok King literally jumped out of the ground late suggesting he will be winning plenty on the turf over further. The son of Globetrotter(USA) had won his last three straight on the sand prior.

Another impressive win on Sunday was the first starter Tak Fai Of Pins under Luis Corrales in the Class 4 over 1050 metres.

Tak Fai Of Pins prepared by Danny Wong is a New Zealand import who showed good speed in a mad scramble for the lead, and then went right on with the job to win well over Cool Brother (Peter Ho), with Elderly Paradise (Akash Aucharuz) in third.
