Lord Glitters seeks historic second Singspiel Stakes, the highlight of a cracking carnival card at Meydan

The fifth meeting of the 2022 Dubai World Cup Carnival at Meydan on Friday evening is a quality card, officially highlighted by the Group 2 Singspiel Stakes, won last year by Lord Glitters who will be seeking to become the first dual winner of the 1800m turf feature which was inaugurated in 2011.

Trained by David O'Meara, Lord Glitters  also won the Group 1 Jebel Hatta, over the same turf 1800m, on Super Saturday last season, his second top flight success having landed the 1600m Group 1 Queen Anne Stakes at Royal Ascot in 2019.

Now a 9yo, the gelding won the Group 3 Bahrain International Trophy in November but was unable to land a blow on his first Meydan outing of 2022 when fourth in the Group 2 Al Rashidiya three weeks ago.

O'Meara said: "He had a break between Bahrain and his first run this year when he ran well enough but probably needed the outing fitness wise.
"He has been working very well since and we know conditions suit him so we are hoping for a big run in a tough race."

Predictably, Godolphin are well represented with Charlie Appleby saddling course and distance winner Zakouski, second to Lord Glitters in this last year and the choice of William Buick on his seasonal debut.

James Doyle has opted to partner Royal Fleet with Mickael Barzalona picking up the spare ride on Appleby's third contender, Art Du Val, another to have won over this 1800m Meydan track and trip.

Appleby said: "Zakouski is dropping back to nine furlongs which should suit him better after running over a mile and a quarter in Bahrain. He is a solid performer around Meydan and should be very competitive if he performs to his best.

"Art Du Val  and Royal Fleet  have both come out of the Al Rashidiya in good order and a repeat of those efforts should see them in the mix again."

Fellow Godolphin handler, Saeed bin Suroor saddles both Bedouin's Story, seemingly the main hope under Frankie Dettori, with Pat Cosgrave partnering stable companion Passion And Glory.

Bin Suroor said: "Bedouin's Story  has done well since his comeback in the Al Rashidiya. He is a good horse and Frankie Dettori knows him well. This trip suits him and we are looking for a good run.

"Passion And Glory  needed his first run of the year and has come on for the outing. We are looking to take him to Saudi Arabia after this, so this should hopefully put him spot on for later in the month. He's in good form and ready to go."

Fourteen 3yos are set to take their chances in the Group 3 UAE 2000 Guineas over 1600m on the dirt track, including Rawy who was shedding his maiden tag at the third attempt when victorious in the 1400m trial for RRR Racing and Salem bin Ghadayer.

He will again be partnered by Mickael Barzalona and Bin Ghadayer said: "He showed a touch of class winning the trial and the extra 200m should not be an issue. He is a nice horse and should run well."

For Sheikh Ahmed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Nicholas Bachalard saddles the promising Sadaaty, winner of his only start to date in a 1200m Jebel Ali maiden 27 days ago.

Bachalard said: "He has improved in his training since his first run and seems in very good form so we are expecting him to do very well, assuming the different surface suits him as well as the Jebel Ali one did."

Similarly, Bendoog won his only racecourse appearance thus far, in his case a maiden over this 1600m dirt course and distance three weeks ago for Bhupat Seemar.

Tadhg O'Shea opts to ride him with Fernando Jara aboard stable companion Conglomerate who opened his account, at the fourth attempt, 41 days ago and, like his stablemate, in a maiden over Friday's track and trip.

Seemar said: "Bendoog was impressive first time, really pleasing us and he is well drawn, while Conglomerate put his head in front last time which was nice.

"Both are in good form and will be suited by the likely fast pace."

Get Back Goldie  won a 1200m conditions race at the carnival fixture just last Friday for Doug O'Neill and makes a swift return, up in grade and trip, with William Buick again in the saddle.

Also on dirt, the concluding 1200m Group 3 Al Shindagha Sprint will see Al Tariq attempt to repeat his victory in the race of last season for Doug Watson who also saddles Canvassed, arguably the main danger.

Merqas, for Musabbeh Al Mheiri and Antonio Fresu and Bet Law, already a course and distance winner this carnival under Vagner Leal for Antonio Cintra Pereira, look others worthy of consideration.
