The first of the Group One races at Deauville will be run on Tuesday – the Prix Rothschild over the straight 1600m and restricted to fillies and mares, three-year-old and upward.

Aidan O'Brien won this race last year with the recently retired Mother Earth. This year he presents the highly progressive three-year-old Tenebrism. From five starts she has won three including two Group One races with her last outing being a course 1400m victory in the Prix Jean Prat just over three weeks ago. Settling midfield but never more than a couple of lengths off the leaders, she powered to the lead inside the 200m and drew clear to win by one-and-quarter lengths, defeating smart colts and fillies including the two Classic Poule d'Essai winners. Racing that day, she indicated the extra distance will suit.

British horses have a good record in this race and Saffron Beach could be hard to beat. Trained by Jane Chapple-Hyam, an Australian by birth and now based at Newmarket, this filly is a proven Group One performer having won the Sun Chariot Stakes over 1600m in October last year. Her form this season is also very good winning the 1600m Duke of Cambridge Stakes (G2) at Royal Ascot on her most recent start.

Dreamloper is another British mare. This five-year-old has already won a Group One race in France this season having taken out the Prix Isphan at Longchamp in May over 1850m beating open class horses.

Goldistyle will be favoured for sentimentalists as her dam is the great Goldikova who won this race a record breaking four times from 2008-2011. She has won to Listed level over 1400m and then ran fourth in a G3 contest beaten one length at Chantilly

On paper, this is an exciting race with many form-lines meeting to contest 1600m over the straight.
