Missed The Cut will line up in the Neom Turf Cup.
Young British trainer George Boughey is considered by many to be a name worth following in the training ranks. He had his first runner at Bath (UK) in July 2019 and first winner three weeks later at Lingfield (UK) on the all-weather surface. Since then, he has saddled-up more than 1500 starters and maintains a good win strike rate of 17% and place of 44%. Group One success – a Classic – was achieved when Cachet won the 1000 Guineas at Newmarket last May. In addition, there have also been four other G1 placings plus seven G3 and four Listed Race wins.
Another horse in the stable that is on the verge of potentially becoming his best to date is Missed The Cut, a four-year-old with four wins from just six starts across distances ranging from 1600 to 2000m. He will line up in the Neom Turf Cup (G3) on Saturday in Riyadh.
The trainer has been in Saudi Arabia this week supervising his final preparation:
'He seemed great. He had a rapid rise through the summer last year, possibly too much too soon.'
Following an unplaced run in a French G2, he received a three-month break before winning a 2000m Listed race at Lingfield in November defeating Algiers who subsequently won two successive G2 races on his next two starts at Meydan and is one of the favourites for the Dubai World Cup next month.
'Algiers has taken his form to a different level on the dirt at Meydan but this race on Saturday is different. It's a tight ten furlongs on the turf, he has plenty of pace so he should go pretty well. His demeanour has improved as has his behaviour and he is certainly going the right way. He is a horse that can be versatile ground and trip wise.'
By Quality Road, he has already proven himself on both turf and all-weather surfaces and Boughey indicated there could be further dirt and all-weather races for him in the future. In the meantime, this progressive lightly raced four-year-old has shown enough to be considered as one of the principal chances in Saturday's race.
