Admire Rakti 2014 Melbourne Cup Topweight

Japanese galloper Admire Rakti has been confirmed as the 58kg topweight for the Melbourne Cup with weights released on Tuesday.

The well performed Japanese stayer has been given 58kg for the Group 1 Melbourne Cup with Racing Victoria’s Chief Handicapper Greg Carpenter announcing weights for the event on Tuesday morning.

Admire Rakti will arrive in Melbourne on Saturday evening with fellow Japanese stayer Bande who has been asked to carry 56.5kg.

Admire Rakti and Bande are each quoted on the second line of betting for the Melbourne Cup at $15 behind current favourite The Offer.

The Offer was also allocated 56.5kg.

Makybe Diva (58kg) in 2005 and 1994 winner Jeune are the only horses in the past two decades to have carried such weight to victory in the Melbourne Cup.

Other well fancied Cup hopefuls include Silent Achiever (56.5kg), Lucia Valentina (53kg), Cavalryman (57kg), Dandino (56.5kg), Spillway (54.5kg) and the Dermot Weld-trained Pale Mimosa (55kg).
