Japanese Arc Trio Arrive At Chantilly

The trio of Japanese contenders for next month's Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe arrived at Chantilly on Sunday after a 35-hour marathon trip by plane and road from Tokyo.

The trio of Just A Way, Gold Ship and Harp Star had to travel by float from Amsterdam after the scheduled direct flight taking them from Tokyo to Paris was cancelled.

They arrived at Chantilly on Sunday morning after the flight to Amsterdam arrived at 5pm on Saturday.

The trio now have a two week to settle down at Chantilly before the Arc at Longchamp on October 5.

Just A Way leads the Japanese assault, his stunning success in the Dubai Duty Free at Meydan in March earning him the rating of the world's best horse by official handicappers,

However the possibility of soft ground and the 12f trip at Longchamp are concerns for the connections.

Not so with Japanese 1000 Guineas winner Harp Star, who should have no problems with the distance after a fast-finishing second in the Japanese Oaks in May.

That form was boosted on Sunday when Oaks winner Nuovo Record recorded an easy win in a G2 at Hanshin.

The enigmatic Gold Ship - beaten three-quarters of a length by Harp Star on their last outing - has won five times at G1 level including the Japanese 2000 Guineas and St Leger in 2012.

Naosuke Sugai, trainer of Just A Way and Gold Ship, will arrive in France on Monday with jockey Norihiro Yokoyama.

Hiroyoshi Matsuda, trainer of Harp Star, is expected at Chantilly on September 29.
