Epiphaneia Retired Due To Injury

Last year's Japan Cup winner Epiphaneia has been retired due to a training injury.

Epiphaneia suffered the injury while being prepared for a return to racing in in the G1 Takarazuka Kinen ahead of a possible trip to FREance for the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe.

Epiphaneia will go to stud at the Shadai Stallion Station in Hokkaido.

Trainer Katsuhiko Sumii said the stayer had suffered suspensory damage.

“Even if it could be cured there is too much risk of it re-occurring,” Sumii said.

“I am sure he will be welcome by breeders because he can be mated for the inbreeding of Sunday Silence. I look forward to the days when I can challenge in top races around the world with his sons or daughters."

The son of Symboli Kris S notched six wins from 12 starts. His other major wins included the 2013 Kikuka Sho (Japanese St Leger).
