Japan Welcomes More Overseas Riders

French jockey Fabrice Veron has joined the influx of overseas riders granted short term licences in Japan.

Veron has been licenced from January 9 until March 6, becoming the fifth overseas rider to take up short term contracts this month.

Veron, 32, will be primarily riding for owner Hirofumi Kubo and trainer Takayuki Yasuda.

Ireland’s Francis Berry received a short-term riding license effective from January 4 to March 2. He will be primarily riding for host trainer Noriyuki Hori and owner Kazuko Yoshida.

Canada-based Mexican jockey Luis Contreras has been licensed from January 5 to February 29. He will be primarily riding for owner Kazumasa Yano and trainer Yoshitaka Ninomiya.

Irish jockey Shane Foley received a short-term license from January 5 to February 28 for host trainer Yasuo Tomomichi and owner Katsumi Yoshida.

Declan McDonogh is third Irish rider to be licensed, effective from January 5 to January 29 for owner Ryoichi Otsuka and trainer Hisashi Shimizu.
