Deep Impact filly Vivlos made smart progression to win the G1 Shuka Sho, third leg of Japan’s Triple Crown for fillies, at Kyoto on Sunday.
It was her first stakes victory and her first start in a Group One event however there appeared to be no fluke about the result as she showed a smart turn of foot to secure the win by a half length from Pearl Code and Kaiserball.
Vivlos warmed up for this 2000m contest with a promising second to Biche in the G3 Shion Stakes at Nakayama on September 10.Biche was disappointing on this occasion finishing tenth and it was left to Sheikh Fahad Al Thani’s Pearl Code to give the winner most opposition.
Jockey Yuichi Fukunaga was content to bide his time early on the winner before making steady progress to position just off the leaders as the field tightened approaching the straight.Vivlos tracked the eventual runner up as they faced for home and she responded generously to to grab the lead close to home.
“We were in a perfect position and the trip was smooth and in good rhythm,” commented Fukunaga.“We were able to pick our own timing for the move. Her sister Verxina had a lot of speed and staying power but this filly has a tremendous burst of speed.”
Yet another G1 winner for Japan’s three time champion sire Deep Impact, Vivlos’ dam is the five time winner Halwa Sweet, also the dam of Verxina who won the G1 Victoria Mile and was second in both the Japanese 1000 Guineas and Oaks.
