Seoul Race 1: Class 6 (1400M) Special Weight A / KRW 30 Million

Picture: Korea Racing Authority

It's hard to go past (3) SLAM DRAGON here. He has finished no worse than 4th in three starts so far and comes in having beaten a couple of these on his way to 3rd place at 1300M on Christmas Day. He has a runner-up finish to his name at this distance already and he should have too much here. (7) RAIN STAR has shown improvement across three starts so far. He was 5th behind Slam Dragon on Christmas Day and the slight step up in trip may suit. (8) BLOOD MOUNTAIN beat a couple of these on his way to 5th place at 1300M on December 17th. He has been doing his best work late in each run so far and is another who ay like the extended trip. (9) SAEBYEOK BULBIT and (2) ARNOLD QUEEN others in the placing frame.

After an indifferent debut, (5) PASALUBONG has scored a 2nd and a 4th over 1200M and 1300M, most recently racing on pace. He draws nicely to get to the lead again and this time he can go all the way. Also vying for favourite status will be (9) HANGANG GLORY. He's shown steady improvement across six starts so far, culminating in a runner-up finish over 1200M on Christmas Eve when he settled midfield and ran on. The additional half-furlong can suit, and he can be a danger. It would be a surprise if those two don't fill out the quinella, but (2) SEONGSIL YEOGEOL came from well back to finish a much-improved 6th of eleven over 1200M on December 24th and with similar improvement today, he can compete. (4) SEONGSIN CHEONHA and (6) BULGEUN POKPUNG are others to consider on a place line.

Selections (5) Pasalubong (9) Hangang Glory (2) Seongsil Yeogeol (4) Seongsin Cheonha

Busan Race 1: Class 6 (1200M) Special Weight A / KRW 30 Million

(9) GREAT MAN has shown steady improvement across three starts so far with his latest, a 2nd place over this distance on December 22nd, being his best when he led from the gate until close to home. He draws a touch wider than ideal but should have enough about him to get to the front again, and this time he can go all the way. The main danger is (6) SEUNGNI PARTY. After a plain debut, he raced on pace at start number two on Christmas Eve, ultimately coming home a close 3rd over this distance. He'll be on pace again and has every chance of going even closer this time. The exposed form drops off the proverbial cliff after that. As a result, we will make first timer starter (1) ONEULISUNGAN the nest best. He posted fair times in two trials and if he brings that form to the races, he can be in with a place chance. (5) TROPHY WARE and (10) SINGAPORE PARTY, the latter having been back to trial since a dreadful debut, others who could improve.

Selections (9) Great Man (6) Seungni Party (1) Oneulisungan (5) Trophy Ware

Seoul Race 3: Class 6 (1200M) Special Weight A / KRW 30 Million

Small field here and (7) LONDON VICTORY will be a short-price favourite. After a solid 5th on debut over 1000M, he was 3rd when stepped up to this trip on November 12th, racing on pace throughout. Third-up here he should be ready to win. The only other one in the field to have recorded a top-three finish already is (4) MONEY TOUCH. That came at her latest appearance over this distance December 23rd when she settled midfield and then finished off well for 3rd place. That was a big improvement on her previous efforts, and she won't need to go much better to get closer here. (6) BEAUTYWONDERFUL has a 4th and a 6th among three outings so far and that's enough to see her in with a shout of the placings here. (1) THUNDER A ONE and (5) CHANIGO others in the frame for the minors.

(3) BREEDO WIZARD is the pick here. After a strong trial, he's finished 4th in both starts so far, both at 1200M and both times settling back and running on well. Franco climbs on, the slight step up in trip can suit, and he can win. (2) GRAY BOSS enters off two 4th places and a 5th from his latest three between 1200M and a mile, each time going right back and running on well. He has super average time for the final furlong and draws a much better gate this time. He can be a danger late. (9) BARADEON BADA was a fair 4th on debut over 1200M after overcoming gate twelve. She should have come on for that run and can match or better it here. (4) GWANGYAEUIHAMSUNG and (7) DORAON ZETTA among others in the placing frame.

Seoul Race 4: Class 5 (1200M) Handicap / KRW 45 Million

Fillies and mares only here and there are two standouts. (2) SPARK THUNDER got her maiden in at start number two over 1200M in November before beating a couple of these when coming from well off the pace to run over the same distance on her first try at this class on December 17th. She draws well here and could have too much. (3) LADY CODI has had three goes at this class since winning over 1000M last September. Her best was her latest on December 23rd when a close 2nd over this distance having race handy throughout. She only comes up 1lg in the weights, she should be on or close to the place, and she has as good a chance as any. (5) SEONGSIL DAERO broke through over this distance at start number four on December 23rd, leading all the way. She is up in class but can measure up. (6) HWIPARAM and (7) YUKWAEHAN SARANG others in the hunt.

Selections (2) Spark Thunder (3) Lady Codi (5) Seongsil Daero (6) Hwiparam

Busan Race 3: Class 5 (1400M) Handicap / KRW 45 Million

(2) BIG MORE was a winner on debut over 1200M in November, leading from gate to wire, and he came close to repeating the trick on his first try at this class over 1300M on December 8th, ultimately coming home in 2nd place behind favourite World Dragon. From a great draw, he will be on pace again and the step up in trip should not be an issue. (3) STRIKE ZONE was a winner at this class over 1300M on December 29th racing on pace. He comes up 2kg in the weights but looks to have plenty of potential for more and shapes as the main danger. (10) JANGSAN LEMON ran 3rd behind Strike Zone in that race, his first try at this class. His win came over this distance and the wide draw hasn't proved a problem for him so far. (11) MORNING FLOW and (7) ROAD TO MAGIC others who can enter the calculations for at least a place.

Selections (2) Big More (3) Strike Zone (10) Jangsan Lemon (11) Morning Flow

Seoul Race 5: Class 5 (1300M) Handicap / KRW 45 Million

Tricky race with plenty having convincing claims. We'll take a chance on (7) STAR TREK, who was a winner on debut last September and has since run 5th and 3rd in two tries at this class, most recently at this distance on Christmas Eve when leading for much of the way. He remains well weighted and draws well to lead again and can win. (3) RAON TAP PLAY was a winner at this class on December 10th when handy throughout. He comes up a full 4kg in the weights but that is balanced somewhat by a good gate, and he can repeat. (2) HAKSAN MACHO is up in class despite being winless. He recorded a quick time when 2nd over this distance on New Year's Eve and under a light weight and from a very good gate, he can measure up in this company. (5) BEOLGYOWISU, up in class following a win at start number two, along with (4) GLORY K are among plenty of others with chances.

Selections (7) Star Trek (3) Raon Tap Play (2) Haksan Macho (5) Beolgyowisu

Busan Race 4: Class 4 (1200M) Handicap / KRW 75 Million

Fillies and mares only here. (11) AUTUMN BREEZE won back-to-back races in November and December to get rapidly promoted to this level. Both were over this distance and both times she led all the way. Aside from the class rise, she has the challenge of the widest gate, but with a touch of luck at the start, she can get a forward position and she may prove difficult to pass. (8) GREAT MISS beat three of today's rivals to score at this class and distance on Christmas Eve. She comes up 2.5kg in the weights here but remains in at a fair mark and third-up this preparation, she may be peaking fitness-wise. It would be no surprise if she backed up. (9) SANGIM YEOWANG and (4) SPECIAL HERO similarly come in off last start wins at class and distance and coming back into restricted filly and mare company, can shrug off their weight increases. (1) FIRST PARK another in the minor money hunt.

Selections (11) Autumn Breeze (8) Great Miss (9) Sangim Yeowang (4) Special Hero

Seoul Race 6: Class 5 (1700M) Handicap / KRW 45 Million

(4) BLACK BELT got his maiden win at start number three over 1200M in November before running 2nd on his first go at this level over 1400M on December 31st, settling handy and running on strongly. He steps up to two turns for the first time but there is every reason to believe it can suit, and he may take some beating. (9) EFFEL TAP comes in off a solid class and distance 3rd place on December 9th when settling midfield before dropping right back and then finishing strongly. The wide draw shouldn't be a problem and he can match or better that at a probable each-way price. (8) JAKDUKONG and (3) COMPLETE LEADER came home 1st and 3rd respectively when they raced one another at class and distance on December 16th and both can be in the mix here. (2) BUL HWASAN another in the hunt.

Selections (4) Black Belt (9) Effel Tap (8) Jakdukong (3) Complete Leader

Busan Race 5: Class 3 (1600M) Handicap / KRW 75 Million

(2) BAEKDUUI KKUM was the track's best juvenile filly last term, and she begins her three-year-old campaign by stepping up to the distance that the first leg of the Triple Tiara will be run at. Never worse than 3rd, she ran some super times over the shorter journeys and from a good gate and under a light weight, she can win here. This is a challenging race though. (9) GEUMA DISTINCTION won three races in a row between September and November last year before running 2nd over a mile last time out on December 31st. He comes up in class here but is down significantly in the weights and just like the filly, looks to have loads of potential for a big season. (1) GRAND SUN comes up in class having won in a super time over this distance on December 15th. He has never finished worse than 3rd in ten runs so far and surely measures up here. (4) YASAENGHWA and (8) K GOLD BAR among plenty of others in the minor money frame.

Selections (2) Baekduui Kkum (9) Geuma Distinction (1) Grand Sun (4) Yasaenghwa

(5) ECLIPSE BERRY was 3rd in the Rookie Stakes before running 2nd on the Munhwa Ilbo Trophy and again in the Gwacheon Mayor's Trophy, both juvenile listed, with the latter being for fillies only. She has posted good times a long the way, and she begins her three-year-old campaign by stepping up to 1400M for the first time and at class 4 level, should take some beating. (8) NICE TAEYANG won back-to-back races in October and November to be rapidly promoted to this class and was then 2nd on his first try at this level over 1400M on December 16th, coming from off the pace. He remains nicely weighted and shapes as the main danger to the favourite here. (7) CURRERECUS was a winner at this level over 1700M two starts back and can be considered on a place line again. (2) ILDONG BAKSU and (3) DALKONG among others to keep safe.

Selections (5) Eclipse Berry (8) Nice Taeyang (7) Currerecus (2) Ildong Baksu

Busan Race 6: Class 2 (1800M) Handicap / KRW 90 Million

Most of this lot race each other on a regular basis so there is plenty of form to go on. (9) STAR MATTA has beaten plenty of these across his latest two when he has scored a win at this distance and then a 3rd place over 2000M, both at this class and both times when coming from off the pace. He does carry 4kg more than during that win, but he could well have the beating of them again. (3) B.J. CHIEF was 4th to Star Matta's 3rd at 2000M on December 31st when racing handy throughout. He can settle behind the early speed here and can be a danger late on. (7) WIND WINNER is up in class following back-to-back victories over 1800M. The times he posted would have been more than competitive at this level and he comes in under a light weight. (1) ALIVE STAR is similarly up in class following a good score over a mile on December 22nd, coming from well off the pace. He too is well weighted and can be competitive. (11) DOCTOR FAITH among plenty of others capable of placing on his day.

Selections (9) Star Matta (3) B.J. Chief (7) Wind Winner (1) Alive Star

Seoul Race 8: Class 4 (1600M) Handicap / KRW 60 Million

(7) FUN CRAZY is a winner of one from seventeen, but he recorded three straight runner-up finishes between September and November. He didn't do much on his latest appearance over 1700M on December 10th, but he has gone well over the mile before and Moon Se-young, who seems to get on with him, returns to the ride and they will probably be the favourites. (10) MIGHTY TAP was a winner over 1400M at class 5 level two starts back before finishing 4th on his first try at this class on December 17th, again at 1400M. Tactically versatile, the mile may suit, and the wide gate shouldn't pose problems. (6) JEONGWOO FOREVER rarely runs a bad race and looks nicely in here under a light weight. (3) SUNGAN TOUCH and (4) TEN BAGGER others in the placing frame.

Seoul Race 9: Class 4 (1600M) Handicap / KRW 60 Million

(8) LUCKY BOUNCE has only won once but he enters with recent form reading very pleasingly and has run 4th on both tries so far at this class, both over 1400M and both times settling back and running on. He has a quick finish on him, the mile can suit, and he can win here. (5) HWANGOO CHOEGANG has two runner-up finishes among her latest three, both over a mile. Among those who have tackled it before, she has the fastest time over this distance, and she will be a big danger here. (3) QUEEN OF BEST has been in the best form of her career with back-to-back wins at class 5 level over 1200M and 1400M in her latest two. That brings her up in class here, but she is down in the weights and nicely drawn and a hat-trick isn't impossible. (10) VIKING HEART and (9) WALGADAK are others who may have a say.

Seoul Race 10: Class 4 (1200M) Handicap / KRW 60 Million

Moon Se-young has a decent book today and if he isn't already on the board by this time, he has another excellent chance here in the form of (1) ENDING FIRE. Yet to win in five, he has been getting closer culminating in a runner-up finish over 1300M on November 18th. He has had nine weeks off since but draws nicely here and the Constitution colt can make his breakthrough. (6) CAPTAIN SMACHIRI ran out an emphatic winner a class and distance on New Year's Eve, leading every step of the way. He comes up a full 5kg in the weights here, but that win had been coming and he should be on pace and aiming for a repeat here. (5) MORNING DAOL was a winner on debut at class and distance in November before running 3rd in a very quick race alongside a few of these on December 16th. He is another who should be on the early speed and in this a long way. (9) MONTAUK CHAT beat Morning Daol when 2nd in that race, and alongside (2) GWANAKSAN TIGER, is another in the hunt.

Seoul Race 11: Class 1 (1200M) Handicap / KRW 110 Million

As usual for this kind of class 1 sprint, the winner could come form anywhere. Loads of these raced one another on November 26th and (2) RAON GIANT led for much of the way around, ultimately coming home in 4th place. She previously won a valuable Trophy race over this distance in a quick time on international weekend last September and from a good gate and under a light weight, it could be her day. (5) YEONHUI ILCHUL ran out the winner of that November 26th race, settling midfield and snatching a last gasp win. She too remains lightly weighted and a repeat isn't impossible. (11) JANGSAN CLEAR didn't run in that November race and comes in here for the first time since October 22nd when he beat a couple of these when 2nd over 1400M. In August he won a super-fast race over this class and distance and despite the widest gate, he shouldn't be dismissed here. (9) JOY BROTHER and (1) LEGEND DAY among plenty of others capable of being in the finish.
