Seoul Race 1: Class 6 (1400M) Special Weight A / KRW 45 Million

Picture: Korea Racing Authority

Three-year-old maidens in the opener with all tackling the 1400M for the first time. Of two debut-makers. (7) MIGHTY BOM was an improved 2nd at start number two on January 13th over 1200M, settling midfield and running on but unable to get to the winner. Third-up he can be peaking fitness-wise, and the step up in trip should suit. Debut-maker (10) GLOBAL GUNJU won a trial, racing handy throughout and finishing off well. In this limited company, he has to be given a chance first-up. (6) SPACE RUBY came from well off the pace to run 3rd on debut over 1200M. She should have come on for the run and she may well appreciate the additional furlong here. (11) SEGWANG JILJU and (3) ÉCLAIR POWER among others with the potential to improve.

Seoul Race 2: Class 6 (1200M) Special Weight A / KRW 30 Million

Fillies only in this maiden. (8) CHANIGO has raced three times and was an improved 2nd in the latest of those, over this distance on January 21st when on pace throughout and stopping the clock in a good time. She can be on the speed here and this time can go one better. It's a competitive race though. (11) MAGIC IMPACT looks a good debut-maker. She got quicker over the course of three trials, winning the latest at the start of this month in a good time and racing on pace. The draw does her no favours, but she can put in a bold showing first-up. (2) THUNDER STORM came from off the pace to run 4th on debut. She gets a better draw here and with some natural improvement can get closer. (9) LADY HANABI and (5) HERO JILJU others with claims for improvement.

Selections (8) Chanigo (11) Magic Impact (2) Thunder Storm (9) Lady Hanabi

Seoul Race 3: Class 6 (1300M) Special Weight A / KRW 30 Million

(3) JEONGSEONGTIGER has improved across four starts so far, culminating in a 2nd place over 1200M on Christmas Eve when, as has been her style, she raced handy throughout. She draws nicely here, the slight step up in trip can suit, and she can go one better. The big danger is (1) PASALUBONG. He also has a runner-up finish to his name and comes in off back-to-back 4th place finishes over this distance. He likes to race on pace, so he gets a great draw to be on speed and he could well lead all the way. It would be a surprise if those two don't fill out the quinella as the rest of the form is very patchy. (6) BEAUTIFUL HWASEONG has hinted at ability, while (2) TURN TABLE and (4) GRATITUDE look to be others with the most chance of challenging for the minors.

Selections (3) Jeongseongtiger (1) Pasalubong (6) Beautiful Hwaseong (2) Turn Table

Seoul Race 4: Class 5 (1400M) Handicap / KRW 45 Million

(9) SEOBU TEUKSONG obliged as favourite at start number two over 1200M on January 6th, settling handy and running on. She comes up in class and in distance here, but she carries a nice light weight, and she could repeat. (4) HAKSAN MACHO is yet to win in seven attempts but has plenty of near-misses and was 4th on his first try at this class over 1300M on January 21st. He can race on pace or from the back and he can be a danger here. (5) VIVA CHEONGSU is also yet to win but comes up in class having run 2nd in both her first two races over 1200M She has been doing her best work late on so the step up to 1400M may well suit and she comes in under a light weight. (8) BEAT RACER and (10) HANGANG POWER, who is back in trip and has been back to trial since his latest effort, are among others to consider for the places.

Selections (9) Seobu Teuksong (4) Haksan Macho (5) Viva Cheongsu (8) Beat Racer

Seoul Race 5: Class 5 (1300M) Handicap / KRW 45 Million

Small but competitive field. (9) DONGJIN BULPAE was a winner at start number two over this distance on January 20th when he began fairly before being ridden to the pace and ran on to score well in a time considerably quicker than any of the others here have achieved. He comes up in class today but won't need to improve much on that to win this. (6) BEOLGYO VERITAS was a convincing winner on debut over 1200M before running a close 4th on his first try at this class and distance on January 6th. He will be on pace here and has every chance of going all the way. (2) LEGENDSUN was thought highly enough of to be given his chance in a Listed race for juveniles last autumn. That didn't go well, but he has more than held his own at this class with back-to-back 3rd places at this distance and while he carries his fair share of weight here, he will surely be in the finish again. The wildcard is (8) GHOST WOLF, who won her only start to date all the way back in July 2022. She offered few clues in her December trial but is worth keeping an eye on. (5) ARCH RUNNER among plenty of others with claims.

Selections (9) Dongjin Bulpae (6) Beolgyo Veritas (2) Legendsun (8) Ghost Wolf

Seoul Race 6: Class 5 (1200M) Handicap / KRW 45 Million

(6) GIPPEUM HAMSEONG got his maiden win when making all over 1300M last October and followed up with a desperately close 2nd place on his first try at this class, again at 1300M on January 6th and again racing on pace. He comes up slightly in the weights, but he should be on pace again and may prove difficult to pass. (5) YONGAM MARENGO is yet to win in four starts but is up in class following two 3rd places and most recently a 2nd place when going down very narrowly over this distance back at the end of November. He comes up in class but enters fresh off twelve-weeks rest, and under a light weight and drawn well, he should measure up. (7) AGAPANTHUS is a two-time winner and hinted at a return to form when 3rd at class and distance on January 14th, running on from midfield. An apprentice takes him down a full 4kg in the weights, and he can match or better that here. (3) JAEWOO SIDAE and the up in class (1) FIRST CHOUX others who can enter the calculations.

Selections (6) Gippeum Hamseong (5) Yongam Marengo (7) Agapanthus (3) Jaewoo Sidae

Seoul Race 7: Class 4 (1600M) Handicap / KRW 60 Million

(4) GANGNAMBULCHUNGGAK has breezed through classes 6 and 5 with comfortable wins over 1200M and 1400M, first coming from midfield and then making all. That brings him up rapidly in class and up to the mile for the first time, but neither should be of too much consequence, and he comes down in weight and can continue on his merry way. This is a stern test, though. (10) JUMONG CHEONHA was a class and distance winner on January 21st racing handy throughout. He comes up 3.5kg in the weight and he has the challenge of the widest gate, but he shouldn't be ruled out again. (7) GOLDEN HONOR too won at class and distance on that same day and while up a full 4kg warrants respect. (9) JAKDUKONG took twenty tries to get his maiden win but clearly enjoyed it as she followed up immediately with another. That brings her up in class this time, but she remains nicely weighted and while three-in-a-row may be a bit much to ask for, she can hit the board again. (8) J MOTION returns to action for the first time since last September. He has placed at this class and looked well when trialling up at the beginning of the month.

Seoul Race 8: Class 4 (1400M) Handicap / KRW 75 Million

Fillies and mares only here. (2) STARTER won her first two races in fine order to be rapidly promoted to this level, only to come unstuck when given her chance in the Listed Gwacheon Mayor's Trophy for juvenile fillies in December. She comes back into more amenable company here and from a good gate, she should be on pace, and she can win. (6) PUNGUNJIMA is a winner of two from four and comes up in class after a facile score at 1200M on January 7th. She is up in trip but sown in weight and will be a big danger. As an import, (11) DALKONG began at this class and while she is yet to win in four attempts, she has been getting closer, culminating in a runner-up finish over this distance on January 21st when settling back and running on. The 1400M seemed to suit and while she is up 3kg in the weights, she can be a threat late again. (10) BYEOLNARA BIMA and (4) BEOLGYO TAYANG others to keep safe.

Seoul Race 9: Class 3 (1400M) Handicap / KRW 75 Million

Ultra-competitive race with a case to be made for most of the field. We'll go with (12) K N GOLDEN KING, who returned from four months out to run 2nd over 1200M on New Year's Eve. He takes his chance out of class here (he is still eligible for class 4) but that means he comes down a full 5.5kg in the weights and he should strip fitter for that run. (9) WONPYEONG LIST was 3rd in the Listed Gwacheon Mayor's Trophy for juvenile fillies in December before winning at class 4 level over 1300M on January 6th. This is tougher but she is under a light weight and has plenty of scope for more progress. (10) SINHAN TEUKSONG was a winner at this class and distance two starts back before running 2nd on January 7th having led for much of the way. She comes up in the weights here but should still be competitive. (2) GIANT PUNCH and (7) APEX among plenty of others who can win on their day.

Seoul Race 10: Class 3 (1800M) Handicap / KRW 75 Million

(10) ROCK IMPACT comes in having won his latest three in good style, most recently with a few of today's rivals behind him over class and distance on January 28th. He comes up a full 4kg in the weights today, but he has won under more before. It goes without saying that four in a row is rare but it's not impossible here. (1) A. P. PATEK was a good winner at this class over a mile on January 14th when settling midfield and running on. That followed a 2nd place at this distance two starts back. He is up 2.5kg in the weights but is in form and shouldn't be ruled out. (3) MORNING PRINCE is up in class having won over this distance on January 14th. That was a slow race, but he has posted a much quicker time for the distance and under a light weight and from a good gate, he should measure up here. (8) GRACE QUEEN and (12) CHEONDUNG HORANGI others in the hunt.

Selections (10) Rock Impact (1) A. P. Patek (3) Morning Prince (8) Grace Queen

Seoul Race 11: Class 1 (1800M) Handicap / KRW 110 Million

Intriguing race to finish with. (2) WONDERFUL SLEW was 3rd in the Korean Oaks and 2nd in the Gyeonggi Governor's Cup – the final leg of the Triple Tiara – before getting her Stakes win in the Gyeongnam Governor's Cup, again in filly and mare company, over 2000M in October. Her last start saw her 2nd to Jeulgeounyeojeong in the Breeders' Cup Queen in December. While her form has mostly been in restricted filly and mare company, she looks a big talent and is still lightly raced at four. She trialled very nicely last month and under a light weight, can win. (8) NUT PLAY got a 4th and two 3rd place finishes in the Triple Crown races last season before getting a Listed win at this distance last September. He was 4th over 2000M on his first try at regular class 1 on January 14th and can be given another chance here. (10) TIZ BAROWS latest three have been in the Korea Cup, President's Cup and Grand Prix so can have a line drawn through. Today's company is much more amenable, and he too has a winning chance under a light weight. (11) YONGAM BOSS won that January 14th race in fine style, overcoming the same wide gate he draws here. He comes up a full 5kg as a result, but he warrants respect. (9) CHAMJOEUN CHINGU another possible in a fascinating finale.

Selections (2) Wonderful Slew (7) Nut Play (10) Tiz Barows (11) Yongam Boss
