Harder but Hadeer still scores hat-trick

The task up in class looked daunting this time, but Hadeer still streeted his rivals with the same consummate ease to reel off three wins on the bounce on Saturday.

Taking on Class 3 opposition for the first time, the Savabeel six-year-old was just as authoritative as at his last two victories in Class 4 company, with four-kilo claimer Jerlyn Seow Poh Hui doing the steering right through.

Jumping from barrier No 1 in the $70,000 race over 1200m, Hadeer ($11) flew the lids to land in front without much hassle, but had closer company this time – My Dreamliner (John Sundradas) and Siam Warrior (Marc Lerner).

As they made a line of three, the challenging duo didn't loosen their grip at any stage, though visually, Hadeer, gave that impression he had it covered on the fence.

That impression soon turned to reality once the winning post came in sight - Hadeer quickly showed his rivals a clean pair of heels as he powered away along the rails. The resuming Starlight (Louis-Philippe Beuzelin) did trim off a couple of lengths, but Hadeer was never in danger of losing his three-in-a-row bid.

Starlight took a meritorious second place three lengths away, with Siam Warrior third another 1 ¼ lengths away. The winning time was 1min 10.26secs for the 1200m on the Short Course.

With that fourth win from 14 starts, Hadeer  has now made in excess of $95,000 in stakes for the Fortuna NZ Racing Stable.

"It was a good effort today. He was taken on from the 800m to the turn, but he did well to kick away," said Walker.

"Jerlyn cuddled him up in the early stages, and didn't need to pull the stick on him in the straight. They get along very well.

"There is a Class 3 race over 1200m at the end of October for him."

Seow was bringing up a riding double after she earlier won aboard another favourite in Ablest Ascend ($12) in the $50,000 Class 4 Division 1 race over 1000m to bring her tally to nine wins, one short of losing her claim from four to three kilos.
