Justin Snaith Striving For New Record

South Africa’s champion trainer elect Justin Snaith is within 14 wins of breaking the magical 200 win mark that he got within two of achieving last year.

Snaith’s 198 winners last season smashed the previous national record of 174 that was held by Geoff Woodruff.

He will have his work cut out to break his own record as this time last year he was on 189 winners for the season compared to his current mark of 186.

He has six horses entered for the Fairview polytrack meeting on Friday and 11 horses at Kenilworth on Saturday.

His current strike rate per month is just over 16 wins, so it will be hard to achieve 14 wins over the remaining two weeks of the season.

His chances hinge on what success he can achieve at his chief racing centres of Cape Town and Port Elizabeth, where there are six more meetings for him to collect winners.

He can also get more winners out of his Champions Season string in KZN where he is sure to have a few runners on Gold Cup day.

Snaith did train 15 winners in 13 days at the start of the year showing that the record and the 200 mark are possible.

Snaith will be three-handed in the G3 Final Fling Stakes at Kenilworth on Saturday.

His stablemates Jet Supreme (Karl Neisius) and Acrostar (Glen Hatt) are the two highest-rated horses and Aldo Domeyer has been booked for the third Snaith runner She’s A Pippa.

Jockey of the moment Grant van Niekerk sticks with Ladies Mile winner Butterfly Girl in preference to her fellow Mike Bass runners Pan Amm (Chris Puller) and Internet Jet (MJ Byleveld).

Noticeable by her absence is Priceless Jewel, winner of the Prix du Cap and Olympic Duel before being beaten at odds-on in the Ladies Mile.

She is now be aimed at the Champagne Stakes on August 9.
