Ripon on Sunday may have unearthed two very smart maiden winners.

A very smart two-year-old blitzed his rivals when the George Boughey trained Asanda won by an eye-catching 12 lengths over the straight 6f undulating course in the Hammond Associated Celebrates Yorkshire Wooden Spoon Novice Stakes.

Beginning well, the son of Mehmas raced close to the early leaders and travelling out wide. He raced away from rivals when at the furlong, he was asked to respond by William Buick and he soon went clear on the 4/1 third market leader racing away for a very easy victory.

Owned by Sheikh Abdullah Almamek Alsabath, the colt was purchased at the Tatts Craven Breeze-Up sales for 160,000 gns.

The following race saw a Royal win in the On-Course Bookmakers Welcome You To Ripon Maiden Fillies Stakes when the William Haggas trained Market Value won her maiden over the just shy distance of 1m 2f under Tom Marquand. Having her third start, the impeccably bred filly by Siyouni from the Gold Cup winning mare Estimate looked to be a stayer in the making. Leading throughout, Market Value accelerated away over the final furlong to win comfortably by three and a half lengths. She started the 5/4 favourite.
