Dettori to miss Coral Eclipse following unsuccessful appeal against careless riding ban

Frankie Dettori will not be able to take up the ride on current 11/8 favourite Emily Upjohn in next week’s Coral Eclipse at Sandown after his appeal against a nine-day ban for careless riding was unsuccessful.

The nine-day careless riding ban was picked up for his ride on Saga in the Wolferton Stakes at Royal Ascot last week. Frankie Dettori manoeuvred his mount right-handed in the early stages of the contest causing Sydney-based jockey James Mcdonald to snatch up Cadillac in order to avoid a collision. The manoeuvre caused something of a domino effect with several horses hampered in behind.

Having considered evidence from all relevant parties, an independent disciplinary panel of the British Horseracing Authority, elected to confirm the nine-day ban that Dettori was handed by the race day stewards on day one at Royal Ascot.

The panel also decided that a length of nine days was indeed appropriate and no amendment to the length of the ban was made.

Dettori, who was found to have used his whip once above the permitted level of six during his ride on Inspiral in the Queen Anne Stakes at Royal Ascot will also miss next month's three-day July Cup fixture at Newmarket.
